Suggestions for my trip.

Well I have been planning on going to the "Point" Aug.3-5th for around a year now. Looking at the weekly forcast the weather during those days are supposed to be horrible, thunderstorms all day everyday.

With this type of forcast showing, what is there to do if these storms come about? I have been lucky, and the past 3-4 years there, there hasn't been a cloud in the sky. Thanks for all of the suggestions!

And yes, I know that meteoroligists are not always correct with the forcast, but I am just asuming there will some time of rain during my vacation.

I can still always hope for the best, thanks again!

where i live in ohio it seems to only rain hard and for a long time at night. it seems to hardly ever rain here during the day and they always predict the storms to occur sometimes. also you will probably be able to ride a lot of rides if it does thunderstorm because lots of people will leave and right when everything reopens there should be some really short lines. one time i went to pki and there was a 90% chance of rain. i ended up going and hardly anyone was there because the forcast scared them off. i even got to stay on top gun 3 times in a row. it ended up not even raining until about 5 and by then i was done there.

Guess what? I got a fever! And the only prescription... is more cowbell!

Yeah I was wondering about that too. I'm coming from canada and i don't want to drive for 8 hours and then not get on any rides, if anybody could please post what the weather is like today and friday it would appreicated, i'm going on aug 3/4 so i'm in the same boat as you riordan
If you would like to find the forcast then go to www.weather.com and put in Sandusky, OH. It will show a 10 day forcast, and they update it everyday.

use www.newsnet5.com/weather its almost always more accurate than the weather channel and its CP's "offical weather forcast"

Not sure were you got your forecast but TODAY...Fox 8's Own Andre Bernier (Cleveland Station) gave a good forecast to the next EIGHT days. Each day will have a highy between 80-82, with about a 30% chance of an AFTERNOON Thunderstorm. (and VERY scattered at that)

Doubt the weather will have much effect on your visit to the Point.

And BTW, Maybe Walt GTTP's OWN, can add some weather knowledge here...I don't think this area can have ALL DAY Thunderstorms...That would have to be one hell of a storm front.

Thanks for the help!

This has been an unusual summer. July and August are generally drier months, but this year - at least July - has been different. But even with wet years, you rarely have total washouts. In other words, don't worry about the weather.

An all day rain is unlikely this time of year, but not impossible. Certainly nothing I would worry about and not something I think will happen. This is the summer. There's often a chance of rain everyday. Don't fret.

If you live in or around Cleveland, take Tim's advice and watch Andre. Best forecast in town. Period. If not, get your forecast here. Pay close attention to the percentages for "chance of rain." There's a big difference between 30% and 80%. If you really want to know the weather scoop, read the forecast discussion. The discussion is great if you want to know the reasoning behind the forecast. I read it all the time to find out all the nuances that forecasts don't cover.

I've already had my yearly weather rant. You can read it here.

I think most avid park goers will tell you the same thing - never change your plans because of a "bad" weather forecast. Even if it rains in the morning, you're likely to find a less crowded park in the afternoon, which can easily make up for a shortened day.

Without upstops, airtime would have a whole new meaning!

Thanks again for all of the help! I'll just enjoy it as it comes!

Yeah, I agree with chaindog, some of the best days I've had in the park are ones that were supposed to have rain. Unless there is a gigantic storm coming through don't change your plans.

I have to agree also! Storms at this time of year are strong and short. Rides will close, but re-open as soon as the rain stops. You might just get lucky and see the sky open up with sunshine after a good rain, and then the park is cleared out, and the day could get beautiful! That has happened to me on more then a few occasions. Also...if you ARE worried with the rain...there are plenty of things to do inside. There are shows to watch, a giant arcade, glass blowing, shops...etc. Don't worry, it's all good! There is plenty of shelter from the rain around when it does rain, and most of the time that's a good opportunity to grab a bite to eat and enjoy the raindrops...it's pretty beautiful to see the park all watered down...smells good too...like a fresh cleaning for the park! hehe
