stuck?!?!

i've seen pictures of when millenium got stuck at the top of its hill. and i think that would be really really scary. i know this is a long shot, but i was wondering if anyone was on the train that got stuck. what did you do, what did the employees do, and just how scary was it if any?
Nope, and it would be freaky as heck being there, because the cable broke JUST as the first car was cresting the top.

*shudder*

The cable snapped with employee's on it I think. They had to evacuate them with that little elevator car.I've got stuck at the top because of a block problem but we were going in no time.
I've been stuck at the top but for only 15 seconds still you get a great view!
I wouldn't mind sitting up there and waiting for it to get going again, but I don't think it'd be fun to climb out of the train (especially if you were on the steep part of the lift and not the top) and into the little cart. I bet if guests were on it when the cable broke (which I'm not sure they were), it'd be quite the task for the employees to get some of those people to leave their seat way up there.

I would think (hope) that they would put some type of safety harness around the rider before transferring to the maintenance cart. I'd want to be secured somehow before the restraint was released.

than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I've never been stuck at the top but I've come very close. One time as I was waiting in line about 4 of the cars got stuck on top and later in the day i'd look at it and sometimes another car would be stuck.

While in line, one of the cars ahead of us got stuck on the top which made me and my friends very nervous. Then while we rode it, it didnt get stuck till the brakes so the car right behind us got stuck at the top.

The ride was stuck at the top of Millenium Force on May 23rd. Robert S. Rogers High School's Senior Skip Day, Yay! But anyway, a few of my friends where on it and they were near the top of the lift hill for about fifteen minutes right after I got off (darn, I always miss the good stuff) and they didn't hear anything from any employee/op. ) People were scared on the ride, beginning to refuse to walk down, crying, etc. But after the fifteen minutes the train just started back up again and the people were all happy at the unloading station. The ride closed and it opened by the time we walked to Top Thrill Dragster though I didn't get to ride it that day.

Life has it's ups and downs, might as well make it on a coaster!

Here's what happened on that fateful day... It was sept. 2nd 2001, After a long, hard and very fun summer of working MF I woke up late (which honestly was rare for me) My alarm clock just never went off.. I franticly showered and put on my uniform and ran to my ride thinking "well, some things are just out of my control." This was soon to be proven to me in a much grander way! I arrived, we were just starting test runs with loaded trains...MF ride op's and sweep's. I took load platform controls over so a fellow co-worker could have a ride. I picked up the red phone and apologized to my lead for arriving late... dispatched blue, then yellow. Then a friendly co- worker jumped off and said I could hop on ( how nice of her ) I jumped in my very favorite seat..last car, last row, left side. Thumbs up all around and off we went. Great way to start the day usually.
There was no warning. All was well up there in the beautiful blue morning sky as the train was about to crest the lift. Then WHAM! the train slammed backwards into the anti-rollbacks. I looked at my friend next to me and I believe we comunicated telepathically for that split second when our eye's met. We had all been on a block stop sitting up there.. even sometimes alone. It was a routine check every morning...But this wasn't your usual drop back and engagement of the saftey system. We hit hard and the lift was vibrating. I don't believe a word was said. Then I hear a fimiliar noise... It was the sound of the catch car rolling back down the lift. So familiar in fact that I still hadn't come to my senses that this was very bad! That is until I put two and two together and my co-worker and I seeing as we were in the very last seat looked back down the lift to witness the catchcar, or sled as Intamin calls it, sliding out from under us and taking off back to terafirma ripping apart the track itself as it sped through the box track faster than it was ever intended to. We watched our co-workers on the platform scramble for their live's and ambulences arriving not having any Idea what was going on down there. Meanwhile, I was a bit fearful to say the least. One girl was crying. My friend was laughing.. saying "we'll, this they won't be able to fix today." Her enthusiasm helped me a bit I have to admit. We waited, Most people were laughing and goofing off. I on the other hand was well aware that the only way for us to get down was to unload this train angled at 45 degrees stepping across to a service car that doesn't meet up with the train very well... and that a lift evac on MF had never occured before. Well, the boats were watching us now, as I later was informed that the counter weights for the elevator system crashed creating a bang that could be heard across the park and apparently the lake also. The park was just opening and people were entering the park. Management arrived..zipped there way up to us and made sure everyone was o.k. They agreed to take the girl who was crying down immediatly.. It took some talking her into it with soothing vocal tone's and such..but she climbed out just fine and sat down immediatly in the service car. Next up to unload was us they were uloading from last car to front. I watched my friend climb out carefully because the first girl to unload didn't seem to be grabbing for the safest parts of the train and service car. I made note of my order of steps and grabs in order to ensure my safety but what I didn't expect is the frantic grabbing from my kind supervisor trying to pull me to safety. Needless to say I'm still here and I made into the service car safely. We had one car unloaded, 4 employees, a manager and a maintance worker. 6 total when they started moving up to unload more. when I noticed a small sign inside the service car that said 7 person maximum. I figured we should be on the safe side and said Let's just go down now. They agreed. one car at a time. When we reached the bottom it was far from over for me. I was very concerned about this and very uncertain that everyone was sure to make it down alright. It took a while it seemed to me, but we all did and no one on the load platform or under it were hurt. We were all split up to work different rides while they fixed it. They fixed it in pretty good time and they repaired it so well that I was unable to tell anything ever happened when I returned. Routine blockstops were cool, that day wasn't. So there you have my story. And I have to let it be known that MF still remains the greatest rollercoaster ever built in my book. Peace.
wow, i got stuck on superman ride of steel at sfdl, we werent even at the top we were about 10 ft off the ground and it stoped, we started moving again and the train kinda jumped and stopped again, then we were on our way to the top. great ride, but i dont think i could have gotten out of the train and onto the saftey cart thing, i was scared bein on the lift on sros, i would have craped my pants on mf!

Cedar Point, The Roller Coast!!
*** This post was edited by lpth5 7/19/2003 12:28:17 PM ***

Last year (2002) we used our RV to stay in Camper Village, so we ended up getting early access to Cedar Point, and at that time Millennium Force and Mantis were running (Wicked Twister was closed for the day)...so we headed towards Millennium Force

I was in the second to front seat and we began our ascent up the then-was-the-tallest roller coaster hill...and we stopped almost directly at the crest....we thought it was a new feature they added, until an employee walked the stairs to the train explaining to us what had happened, they were having troubles with the cable lift system, so we were at the crest of Millennium Force for around 45 minutes, watching them working on the lift system to get it fixed, the employees stayed up there and talked with us. Anyways, it was actually kind of fun to get that good of a view for that long =)

are you serious? the employee walked up to the top?!?! there's no side rail until the very top! first off i don't believe it and second off the employees doing that must have some major balls to do that.

btw. that was a great story. how hard was it to do that? i would think it would be hard to do that at such a steep angle.

johnz, you don't walk to the top on that steep angle. The service car rides up to the top.

sorry your story seems a little far fetched seeing as how their are no stairs that go all the way up the hill...maybe your thinking about magnum...and i doubt you could see them working on the cable seeing as how that it is directly underneath you, kinda hard when your stuck in the seat with limited movement, to see them working you must have been leaning half way out of the car...sorry im not taken that as the truth

Races for the sky - 2 Front Seat - 1

Not to mention that the crew members don't get to go up in the case of an emergency.

It's management and a maintnence worker to run the cart.

Having run the cart myself, they are VERY picky about who can go up.

Just to clarify things about my story, we werent at the crest, we were actually about half way up (maybe a little higher) and I could see the employees near the bottom...the employee used the stairs to make sure we were all alright and stuff (since the stairs go up a certain amount) maybe it was the service car but I wasnt paying attention to that, I was enjoying the view...they then explained to us that a cable came loose and it should be up in about a half an hour...it actually took 45 minutes...but still, it was amazing either way (the front of the train seemed near the crest)

It was stuck yesterday for about half an hour. They stopped running cars but didn't announce it was closed. We figured it was to add a train (the red one), because although we weren't really paying attention it seemed there were only two running. Well the first group of people got on and it got stuck almost at the top. They then announced it was down. We decided to stick it out to see if they went down the real way or in the elevator car. Well they finally went over the real way and the next test car (yellow) got stuck. This one they put over in closer to five minutes, and then it was fine. I'm not sure what happened, but it did get stuck for a while yesterday.
