Strategy?

I have been wondering, what is Cedar Point doing? I understand Wicked Twister is going to be sweet!!! However, with a ride incredibly similar right next door I'm not sure it will draw people to the point. People living near SFWoA are not going to go to Cedar Point simply because it's 25ft. taller... and in my opinion it kind of makes Cedar Point look like a copy cat. I know CP always builds bigger and better, but SFWoA knows what they're doing. They're building new rides that this area has never seen. That's why everyone goes there! Floorless, Impulse, Flying, etc... I feel that Cedar Point should build new rides, no ones ever seen before. I think that is what would draw people to the park. One more question/comment, it seems to me that many believed Cedar Point would build more than one coaster in order to regain the title of coaster capital of the world. Now perhaps Cedar Point isn't done, but it looks like they are. So once again I'm left wondering... do they not care about the record? Because honestly it will at LEAST be a tie, supposing that SFMM doesnt build another??? Just as another question, what happened to the dancing fountains? was that scrapped all together or are they coming sometime in the future? Thanks for listening to me ramble and for any comments or answers! Don't get me wrong, I am gonna love WT I am just left wondering...
Honestly.. this limits the reason's I'd goto SFWOA down to one. Batman: Knight Flight...

X-Flight bored me... adn once you've been on Ghostrider.. Villian is.. well.. boring...

Looks like I may be getting one less season pass this year.

That is a sweet ride, but X Flight is intense too.
SFWOA Why do you people keep bringing up the World's Most Trashy Park Company if you want that bad trash then stop coming to the best of the best but if not then just drop the case because we all know who is the bigger and the better

Mr. Skyward is my hero.

I've been thinking about the same thing and I think this is just the beginning of renovation in that area of the park.  Look at the location of the ride for starters, it's on the beach.  They tore down the aquarium and I wouldn't be surprised to see the stadium go after next season.  What does that leave you?  A lot of room to work with.  Whether it be flat rides, a wild mouse or even a medium sized woodie, there is going to be more room there for expansion.  Now this is, of course, all speculation on my part, but remember, Cedar Point plans out what they are going to do in 5 years in advance.  I think we'll see a lot of changes over the next couple year.
Just because there is a similar ride down the road isn't going to affect the draw of people to CP. Those of us from Michigan now have a closer impulse to ride. It may be a "clone" of the impulses at SF parks, but it's a different ride for CP, and strategically placed to draw people to a part of the park that needs attention. As loriu says, this is likely just the beginning of revitalization for that part of the park. Not to mention it WILL draw regular CP'ers and help alleviate lines on other coasters.

CP may promote itself as "america's roller coast", but they do their best to provide attractions for the non-coaster enthusiasts as well. Just catering to one genre doesn't make an all around good park.

Think of it this way, why does McDonalds build restaurants right next to Burger King?

OldCper, I agree with ya. Coming from Michigan also, just make my visits to CP more and more...And pretty much less to SFWoA. Granted, I will attend once (to get my season pass), but after that I'l probably wont be making another trip. Just as Red Garter said, only reason why I enjoyed going to WoA was because of S:UE and The Villian.
