Strange Sights, Myths, & Technical Questions

During three days at CP and a party or two over the 4th of July, you see and hear many different things! Here are some examples:

Strangest thing I saw: Wednesday evening, about dusk. Under the Corkscrew tracks which cross the midway, near the Skyride. Two Brinks security types. All in black. Shoes, pants, shirts. Big Brinks star logos on the shirts. Big Guy, and a girl. Large caliber holstered weapons. Girl is carrying large suitcase-sized black satchel with her left hand, her right hand is near her weapon. The guy's right hand is on his weapon, at all times. Left hand on his belt, the other on his weapon. It never moved. They were walking toward the Dragster/Power Tower area. The crowd parted for yards around them, like a wave. It was pretty cool. They were not to be messed with. Anybody care to speculate?

Strangest Thing(s) I Heard: That the Frontier Lift was removed because it was too windy, and the buckets kept falling off, and that it did, in fact, shed a cable at least once. This was repeated as fact, several times. Also that the Wild Mouse was removed because it kept flinging people into the lagoon. Oh, the Stagecoach death story made the rounds, too.

Questions for the Crowd: How much voltage does the Dodgem use? How many amps does it draw? Did you ever notice that the cars on the CP & LE RR use archbar trucks with round journal boxes? I wonder how often they service those? Does all that plumbing around the outside Disaster Transport do anything, or is it just there for atmosphere? Am I the only one who thinks $130.00/hr is out of hand for a Jet Ski rental?

Magnum: 1

I saw an unattended stroller turn from the parked position, and roll at least 60 feet down the midway by where the old Frontier Carousel was with absolutely no one initiating its movement. That kind of puzzled me...

The Matrix: Reloaded!

$130 is crazy, but some people must still pay that, or it wouldn't be that high priced.

When I worked at CP last year, we had a really bad bad storm one night, and the midways, having such <insert sarcasm>wonderful drainage systems<end sarcasm>were filling with water, it was also windy, I watched a garbage can, in front of Centennial theatre fly down the midway, on water, and, if not for me grabbing this little kid, who was standing in front of Hofbrau, almost ran him over and kept going almost to the front entrance without tipping over...weird..

"What time does the 10 pm laser show start?"

One of the strangest things I have seen was in May of this year. It wasn't exactly a very warm day out. I was wearing jeans and a long sleeve shirt and was still a little cold every now and then. Then, while walking past Snake River Falls, I see a car going up the lift with a lone guy riding front seat, still wearing all of his clothes. Numerous people were stopping to wait for him to get drenched. I can't imagine the rest of the day for that guy, or maybe I just don't want to...
i sometimes like to ride the water rides when it's cold. there's no line and it's still a pretty good ride. of course i only do that at pki, where the amazing coasters are scarce (no good ones other than beast).

The strangest thing I saw was when I was in the Palace Theatre and I was the only one there then suddenly the chair next to me moved like a foot.

Why, that is the nuclear fuel for TTD's atomic reactor. What else can it be? :)

On the Frontier Lift, nothing like that ever happened. Especially the "cable shedding". Gondola lifts of the type at CP (both Sky Ride and the late Frontier Lift) only have one cable. If that breaks, you drop. The cable is always inspected and is in immaculate condition I'm sure.

Pete - who rode the Frontier Lift on it's opening day as a little kid.

Where exactly did the Frontier Lift run to/from?

Frontier Lift had one building back next to the Mine Ride. It's still there in between the Mine Ride and Snake River Falls. The bottom of the building are the restrooms and the top, formerly the ride entrance, is used for storage. The other station used to be on the restaurant patio right next to Iron Dragon's entrance/que.

Strangest Thing I Saw:

I saw a man in line for the Mantis holding a bible... I wonder what he did with it during the ride.

This isn't at Cedar Point, but it was about Cedar Point. I just still find it ridiculous on the Travel Channel when they re-run the Great Lakes Special how they make such a bad report about our park.

They were dong a review on Millenium Force (I guess that is when they made the documentary, shortly after it opened), They called it a G-Force giant that is 93 mph and 353 feet tall or something like that. They were showing the ride and showed it going through the first hill, overbanked turn and third hill before they cut to it going into the second tunnel. All of the sudden, out comes a train of the Magnum rollercoaster. The terrible editing had a person speaking about Millenium while video feed of Magnum ride and guests were being shown.

Life has it's ups and downs, might as well make it on a coaster!

yeah, travel channel does a really bad job covering roller coasters in my opinion. sometimes it can be good in just letting me see some of the different rides out there, but it is still pretty bad. there's nothing i hate more than people thinking that they are geniouses about cedar point and roller coasters in general because they say that they watched an episode on the travel channel.
