Stores

Does anyone know of a "Chinese store" of some kind near the main entrance? A friend sayed he bought some nice braclets there. Are there any stores in CP that sell this kind of thing?

The chinese store he was talking about was probably the Pagoda near the Scrambler/Snoopy Boutique area.
Thanks...Is that an actual building or a stand?

I'm pretty sure it is an actual building you walk into.

The Pagoda is Cedar Point's signature gift shop (IMO). The building has been around for decades.

So during the day we all have that one store that we like to go in to check on souvenirs. I just thought I'd bring this topic back to discuss your favorite store to go into. My favorite store is Pagoda. They always seem to have the newest and best shirts in the whole park.

This thread turned old enough to get its Driver's License LAST summer. It will be old enough to vote in the 2018 election. It has to register for the draft (unless it is female) that year as well.

I'd always assumed Pagoda gift shop got its name as a tie-in to the Earthquake next door, with its San Francisco Chinatown scene.

Actually, back in the day Cedar Point had its own post office, housed in a pagoda, at that location.

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

My personal opinion is that all of the gift shops need a makeover. They are all stuck in the 1970's and are not laid out well.

They are a collection of mismatched crap. I understand Cedar Point can't offer the kind of merchandise that Disney has, but they at least could work on Disney style presentation with their merchandise.

The only gift shop I enjoy is the new one in Breakers. The rest of the gift shops need to follow suit. Especially Plaza gifts up at the main entrance. Many of the gift shops use fluorescent lighting and ceiling tiles...

Couldn't agree more with this. The park really lacks in areas of updates and the larger gift shops definitely suffer in this category. I think one of the reasons may be because the park doesn't really have any visual merchandisers to help with the gift shops (or at least they didn't when I worked at the park). While on the subject of this, I was really disappointed in the selection of souvenirs this past summer when I visited. I couldn't believe the amount of generic junk that is offered now. I know that there is a lot of potential here and it sucks that they are falling short with this.

The main problem is exactly what you said: its all junk.

Disney has the merchandise/souvenir thing down pat. I get that Cedar Point doesn't have the IP to boost sales, but no one wants to buy dorky T-Shirts with logos of the rides, which is essentially all I saw in the shops this year. They had some really cool nostalgic shirts in Breakers shop that incorporated a vintage Cedar Point logo with the state of Ohio... I bought several.

Disney sells practical items- interesting coffee mugs, calendars, housewares (kitchen items, dish towels, teapots, etc.), picture frames, photo albums, etc. but its all quality. Cedar Point charges Disney prices, but its all low quality. I was going to buy a beach towel, but it was outrageously priced and paper thin.

I agree that the stores need updated. They look old and outdated.

I like to buy dorky shirts with pictures of rides on them. Other than that, I agree.

I really wish the snoopy store would carry the Charlie Brown hoodie. I can only find it at Kings Island. The reason I haven't bought one yet is because of bills.

I spent way more money than I was planning on during my first trip to WDW. Everyone nailed it on the dot with their comments though. CP just doesn't have any exciting or creative things like WDW has. I guess their Coaster Dynamic models are pretty cool, but waaaay over priced. Even just in those two pictures that Tilt-a-Whirl posted, you can see how neatly everything at Disney is placed, and how it is welcoming to buy, compared to CP where it looks like a tangled mess of keychains thrown on a hook on the wall.

I believe the top picture is the gift shop inside Breakers. Not a Disney gift shop.

They sell Mickey Mouse cups in the Breakers gift shop?

That is definitely a Disney gift shop.

If you actually look at what is in most Cedar Point gift shops you'll notice that only about 25% of the merchandise is actually Cedar Point merch. The rest of it is just filler with trinkets that have nothing to do with the park or area. It's just crap like what you would find in a beachside shop. It really bothers me that they take the time to buy that stuff and try to sell it. How many rainbow colored dog tags that say "Cutie" do they actually sell each summer?

If the park focused on quality merchandise, updated the interior of the shops and hired a visual merchandiser, they would probably see a nice increase in sales.
