If you get the chance, stay at the Radisson Harbour Inn sometime off-season. We were there over Christmas, and it was a lot of fun. You're close enough to see the park after a brief drive, and get to see the lights for Christmas. There are some really killer poster-size photgraphs of CP rides and attractions on the walls in the lobby and hallways. Makes you homesick for the park.
The price is right, only $49.00 & tax for a bayside balcony room for CP passholders. The rooms are nice, and have neat amenities like built-in hair driers, irons & ironing boards, and internet access in the room. I can't say enough about the desk & housekeeping staff, either. They were so very nice to us, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We gave them lots of Christmas cookies, and a pair of special glasses to view the eclipse on Christmas Day.
It was also very cool having that entire hotel complex practically to ourselves. The place was mostly empty. I highly recommend Halyard's Lounge on the 3rd floor for a Killian's Red on draft while enjoying the view of frozen back bay area. The gift shop has a lot of very cool CP items in it, and when we were there we found a lot of very nice Christmas ornaments, some with a CP theme. The pictures I have of my daughter hot-tubbing and swimming with the whole pool area to herself are priceless.
I think the best part was when I stepped out onto the balcony at 1:30 am on December 25, and looked out into the frozen stillness. The temp was 10 degrees, and the cold was gripping, but there was no wind at all. I could hear "Oh Come, All Ye Faithful" coming from the speakers by the pool, in German, no less. Very cool experience.
Christmas vacation at the Radisson was a lot of fun, and not particularly expensive. We will do it again next year. If you have any reason to be in Sandusky over the holidays, or in winter, I highly recommend it.

I will second that. We took advantage of the great rate back in October. Even though we only live a few miles down Cleveland Rd, it was a great little getaway at a very good price.

But is the 24-hour deli still open? ;)
That hotel is OK, but it's in dire need of a furniture upgrade. Some of the dressers and beds and such are in pretty bad shape.

The rooms we were in were in great shape. I saw no flaws with the furnishings at all. The deli was on reduced hours for the winter, and only a continental breakfast was available on Christmas morning. I suppose they have to make some concessions for the off-season. :)
