Star Flyer would be cool at CP or GL

Tim McKinley

This new ride was unveiled last fall at a trade show and it looks awesome. Its sort of like a Pwer Tower and wave swinger combined. And it uses Wave Swinger type chair seats. And it doesn't look like it takes up too much space.

If you're thinking the ride that I'm thinking of then that ride looks insane. The ride I think we are both thinking of takes you up to the top of the tower slowly (like the turbo drop side of Power Tower) and your swinging in a circle like the wave swinger the whole time. Then when you reach the top the spinning gets faster and faster until the seats are banked at 90 degrees. Then the whole thing drops down the tower (still spinning really fast) then stops at the bottom, the spinning slows down, and the rides over. I'll look for a link.

<Edit> I found a link.

It does look terrifying. Spinning around at a 90 degree angle and then being dropped, I get nervous enough waiting at the top of Power Tower.

And I thought Vertigo scared the pants off of me. I don't know if I will ride something like that.

I plan on a trip to Orlando in September, hopefully they will have the one in Old Town in so I can see how bad it is in person.

Gravity

Uhm, I'd need a little more action going on in the restraint department before I'd even CONSIDER getting on that thing. Yikes.

Looks like fun to me! Hey, Gravity, what don't you like about the seats? It's not like you're gonna come out of the thing...! Although I think I would prefer to see the safety belt threaded through the other pair of slots....

I agree with Gravity, I would need some more restraints, and some doubled up cables, and some serious courage to get on that thing. I like the aggressive thinking on putting new spin on old ideas though.

I certainly understand the physics of the ride, and that you are not likely to fall out, but I rather have the perception of being safe coupled by the reality of it.

I just have to wonder how the girl in the fourth picture down gets around an amusement park with those shoes on. :(

I'll ride anything, that is no exception. I think it'll give a new meaning to radial pukers. "Hey mom, it's raining stinky"

Dave, my reasons for wanting more restraints are pretty much everything Digital Daredevil wrote in his post. Anything that's going to have me spinning 200 feet in the air, then drop me down the tower, had better have a little more substance than your standard carnie-looking Wave Swinger chair.

This undoubtedly stems for my extreme distaste for being that high up for an extended period of time. (See: Gravity grumbling every four-letter word in the book through clenched teeth at the top of Power Tower turbo drop, the 3 or 4 times he's been dragged on it) ;) That ride, while yes.. it looks like one hell of a ride, is one you probably won't see me on.

For someone who thought RipCord was rather tame. I think that this ride would be fun. I still wish I would have had a chance to ride VertiGo...:(

I'm not a big fan of the flying swings to begin with. I dont fit all that well in that ride and am just not comfortable with my feeling of safety.

Could you imagine someone getting sick on that ride? UGH!

Or if someone was having an emergency high up, either, a medical problem or suffering a panic attack due to the ride? People who are freaking out do not think logically and would start to try to get off of the thing.

I know it is extreme but it could happen. It could happen on any ride.

I dont want to downplay this ride. It looks cool to those who would like to ride it. I for one will not be partaking in its height taunting, creaking chains, and freedom of restraints.

Call me a chicken. I'll cluck for ya.

There would be a much larger version of that at CP so the ride can be the largest of it's kind.

Digital Daredevil

I would hope not Kylepark.

But if CP does something, they do try to be the best at it.

I think the funniest thing about all these pictures is the fact that all of these people don't seemed to be the least bit "fazed" by the ride...and I'm sitting here thinking "whoa im not sure if I could do that"

That's crazy! That thing would be insane enough if it weren't for the total lack of safe looking restraints. I'd like to see a video of this thing in operation...I wonder if the swings actually go past 90 degrees out when the thing drops.
