Standard Cedar Point Protocol (SCPP)

I, along with a friend of mine, have a specific routine that we follow just about every time we go to the point. We call the routine Standard Cedar Point Protocol* (or SCPP for short). Does anyone else have a standard routine they follow?

Standard Cedar Point Protocol (2002):

We start the day with "Burgers For Breakfast" at the Burger King right off the Rye Beach Road exit from Route 2. After some burgers, we proceed down Cleveland Road and enter the Point via the Chausette. At the parking gate, I flash my JCC Season pass, and we proceed down Pertimiter Road to the Soak City parking lot.

Entering the park at the Magnum entrance, we start the day at the point with a couple of rides on the greatest roller coaster on Earth, the Magnum XL-200. From there, we go around the back of the park, hitting Gemini, followed by Mean Streak. Then we go for a relaxing ride on the good old Cedar Creek Mine Ride. From there, usually after a visit to the Town Hall museum, we head down the Frontier Trail towards the front of the park. We usually pass up Mantis and MilF, and if any are left, get a Freeway stamp for later in the day.

Once we get to the Million Dollar Midway, we basically play it by ear for the rest of the day. We generally try to get on every coaster at least once, excluding Junior Gemini and Woodstock Express. We usually have lunch at Johnny Rockets. Raptor is usually hit in the early afternoon, with at least one ride in the back seat.

The seats that are generally part of SCPP are the ejector seat on Magnum, seat 15 or 16 on WT, and the back seat on Raptor. For 2003 the back seat on MilF will probably be added to the list of preferred seats.

SCCP will probably change in 2003 with the opening of Dragster, and with my friends and I having JCC passes this year. Under SCPP, we generally are able to hit all the coasters in a day that isn't busy, with plenty of time available for rest and relaxation, and possibly a show. We generally try not to go on busy days.

So what are other people's protocols?

I know my cousin and I always have to ride Demon Drop first to get our blood pumping. Then we end up going to either Corkscrew or Magnum.

Oh, also at the end of the day we have to eat at Pizza Hut.

Well, the only time I've really been there was last summer, and here's how it went...

Got there, walked around a bit to decide on what to to. Finally went to the Cedar Creek Mine Ride (since I had never really been on a roller coaster before) to start me off. Since I was feeling brave, we then went on Corkscrew and that really got me going. After that, I'm really not sure what we did, I think my girlfriend and her sister went on Disaster Transport and I stayed behind. After that we walked around a bit and finally went on Magnum. Now that ride really broke me in as far as roller coasters. After that we ate lunch, and my girlfriend wanted to go on Raptor. I wasn't really up for it, after watching the train go around that final helix, so I think we took a little break by the bumper cars, and then my gf & her sister went on Disaster Transport again. After that it was about time for supper, so we met up with the rest of our group (I went with some people from my church), and then we ventured onto Gemini. After much nagging, they had finally talked me into going on Raptor, and boy did I love it. I really regreted not going on it earlier with them. It's now my favorite coaster. After that we went on Blue Streak, and after that it was time to go home. This summer I hope to conquer Wicked Twister, Disaster Transport, Mean Streak, Mantis, and Millenium Force (Top Thrill Dragster is going to have to wait till next year).

Note: We went on Iron Dragon sometime during the day, not sure when that fell in, though. I've also been on Disaster Transport before, but that was when I was really little. I enjoyed it, though.

usually my trips involve hitting Millennium Force first thing in the morning. after that, its over to "hot potato" for some delicious cheese fries for breakfast while waiting in line for raptor. the people in the line are usually quite frightened by this, and comments are thrown about such as "i dont want to sit behind those kids" or "thats probably not a wise move". the comments are ignored, raptor is rode, and no one has expunged any bodily fluids. after our raptor fiasco, we head on over to the Wicked Twister midway, ride that and Disater Transport (now with Troika and Chaos over there, they will most likely be thrown into the routine) and continue onwards towards Power Tower, Magnum, and Corkscrew. First up on that midway, we might throw in a ride on Matterhorn, but it is usually Power Tower. With a space shot under our belts, we go onwards to Corkscrew. A little bit of head banging is just what you need to keep you aware for the rest of the day. With Corkscrew done, we might consider riding it again if the line is short. we will ride this ride coontinuously until about the 4th ride, just cuz its a so-so ride. afetr this, Magnum. Magnum is ALWAYS a fun time, especially the seat right after the front (since there is no wait). after magnum, we might throw in witches wheel, if the rest of our party is up to it. Gemini is next, with all of us riding blue train the first time. we get of, examine the line, and consider riding it again, this time in the other train, the red train. chicken fingers are uo next, as they are a delicious treat that you can obtain in Frontier Town. with a ride on Whtie Water Landing,(according to the season) and a ride on Mine Ride, we head towards Mean Streak. its a pretty fun ride, just enough to give us what we need. The Frontier Trail is next, heading to Millennium Force and Mantis. We do not always hit MF again, it depends on the wait. we always hit Mantis. On to the Million Dollar Midway, Iron Dragon gives us a chance to rest our feet and rumps, and catch up on a civilized conversation as we are whisked thought the trees gently. WildCat is always a good time, good old Schwarzkopf, he knew how to build a mighty fine ride that CP had better keep. After a ride on the kitty cat, we go on to a dinner at Johnny Rockets, a couple Wicked Twister rides, and another great time on Raptor. Chaos is usually another thing we ride close to the end, just cuz its awesome. The last ride of the day is Blue Streak. what an awesome ride. so simple, yet so perfect. it is not my favorite ride by any means whatsoever, just a great end to a great day at Cedar Point.

NOTE: With the addition of Top Thrill Dragster, that will more than likely be the first thing we do from this point on.

I don't really plan my day out. I do however usually do start in the back of the park and move way forward. Most of the time tough I don’t go for a whole day. I most of the time head out there at about 3 on Sundays, line are most of the time short with a few exceptions such as Millie and sometimes raptor, but in the case of both of those they are worth the wait.

A great thing about Cedar Point is it's so big, and if the lines are long for one ride, there's always something else to occupy your time with :)

Well a few years ago my friend and i would go to Cedar Point and go to Magnum and ride it until there was any kind
out of the station then we would hit Gemeni the same way then we would go about our day. But due to new rides we usually hit the new ones first then ride the other ones alot the rest of the day. this year will be different since i have a season pass and a JCC so riding the rides will be more relaxed and not worried about ridding every coaster there everytime i go.

------------------
Besides the great rides and being the best of everything, the best part about Cedar Point is that it isn't Six Flags! YAY!

I guess the combination of going so often and just being kind of lazy prevents me from making it to the park before noon (except on opening day of course), so I never really get any morning rides. Either Demon Drop or Raptor come first, then WT, and then up to the now TTD midway and continuing back around the park, hitting every coaster along the way, plus a space shot on PT. Depending on the line, I usually just wait to hop in the MF line about 5 minutes before the park closes, on which I ride either front or back seat. Dragster will most likely change this though, but how I'm not quite sure yet.

ps: Is anybody else having trouble accessing the CP website?

This past year, went right while everyone else went left...that is, I went to PT while everyone else went to MF in the morning. After hitting up PT with no wait, we would have roughly an hour of ERT on Maggie. Then we would go around the Frontier trail and go on Gemini and MS. After that we would hitch a train ride so that we could get a FreeWay stamp for MF. From this point we would shoot from the hip and either ride MF then, or go to the front of the park and ride WT, DT, DD, and possibly Raptor depending upon its line. We generally got every major coaster in (with the exception of MF and Mantis) before noon.

We would generally wait until the late afternoons or evenings to ride Mantis, and always came back to the front of the park at around 5:00-6:00 because Raptor's line dwindles to a walk-on at that time. We would always end the night with a ride on MF.

With the addition of Dragster, I suspect that our beloved hour of morning ERT on Magnum will be no more and there will actually be a wait **gasp!** longer than 5 minutes, like it was so many times last year. The line will be full of people either too short to ride Dragster, too scared, or too impatient. But don't fret! With this shift in the morning traffic flow, it will leave a void over at MF and Mantis for the first hour or so. It will be a nice start to the day by taking several near walk-ons on MF and Mantis. Just be sure to make your way over to Dragster early enough to get a FreeWay stamp, which they start to give out at 11:00 am.

What is most anticipated event of 2003? the debut of Dragster, the release of Metallica's new album, the release of Terminator 3, or the release of Matrix:Reloaded...tough call.

wow...i was just going to describe the very hectic course i took last year until i realized when i read my friend's (cpbound) post right there^^^ and realized that is exactly what we did hehe. although i didn't know it was a routine schedule as i only went once with my friends last year. also i must add for kicks and giggles that the VERY FIRST coaster at cp i road was raptor...yeah...there is this place like 40 min north of where i live called fun spot park with only 2 coasters...the only 2 i had ever ridden before that...and those are freakin tiny. after that i was hooked, and the only time i got a little ansy was when we started going up the first hill on my first time...after that it all went down hill...but then up again...i dunno you konw how the raptor goes. oh and cpbound you forgot the mcdonald's breakfast stop halfwayish and the Tbell on the way home...and the you always being stuck driving home part...hehe ;)
by the way. the day after that hectic cpbound's regimin i couldn't go to soccer practice as i was so sore i couldn't move due to the half power walk half jog i was required to do all day to keep up with his longer leg span and quick walk which i swear he practices at school getting to class.

If Magnum does have long lines in the morning because of Dragster, I'll be quite sad... :(

Usually during our CP trips we arrive in the early afternoon, either in the Breakers lot, or the Soak City lot. The first thing my friends and I hit are the go-karts. Because "there's nothing like the smell of octane to wake you up!"

Sam, you forgot one thing. We alsays ride Millennium Force (or MilF as we sometimes call it) as the LAST ride of the day. Waiting in line is usually accompanied by quoting movies such as Spaceballs, or singing the park jingle from the 2001 season: "Ya wanna, ya gotta, ya hafta hold on, Cedar Po!nt, HOLD ON!"

But we'll have to change SCPP this year to make room for Dragster. Of course we'll have more time now that we're both JCC members.

LOL I couldn't help but laugh at the last half of your past SRF-CP-FREAK. :) It's so true, especially the part about me always getting stuck with driving home 3 hours!

It will probally change this year with the construction of TTD Dragster but this was my routine for last year.
I ussually stay in Beakers's East because I live in Chicago so I eat Breakfast at the cafe every morning about a half hour before the park opens. I am ussually the second or third in line for the Beach gate's season passes. I race to MF and take any seat that is open to get on the first ride of the day. After that I hit Mantis, any seat, and then Raptor(If the lines aren't too long), front, on my way to Magnum, back seat. I can ride Magnum 3 or 4 times. Since I'm there by Magnum I hit Gemini and Meanstreak, and then go to The Main Midway to cool down with Iron Dragon and Wildcat just before Corkscrew. After that I play it by ear.
