Space Sprial Cabin

Looking at the web cams today, I notice that the Space Spiral cabin is not in the normal halfway position, but is fully down. Wonder if it is being painted or something? Maybe they're fixing the air conditioning! :)

The cabin has been at the bottom all winter this year for some reason.
There's already a thread running on this...it's under the "First Test" topic.

OK, I must be blind. Where is the "First Test" topic?

It's in the Wicked Twister forum.

I have a couple questions about the Space Spiral ---

1- Is it Intamin?

2- Is it a double decker cabin?

Thanks!

Six Flags: Would you like that super-sized?

I don't think the Space Spiral is Intamin. Yes it is a double decker cabin. Although haven't been using the upperdeck very much except a few days a year. I assume that that might change this year with more traffic in that area.

The Space Spiral was made by Von Roll, a Swiss ski lift manufacturer. The same company that made the Sky Ride and Frontier Lift. Intamin may have sold all three rides, though I'm not sure if they even existed back in '64.

It's very hard to drink all day...
Unless you start first thing in the morning.

All day yesterday, the Space Spiral was running cycles up and down. I kept watching it several times yesterday and one minute it would be up at the top, the next halfway down, then all the way down.. ect.. Anyone know what's going on?

They're just getting ready for the season, making sure it still works after this long crappy winter we've had here in Ohio.

Crappy winter? I'd say that only one or two major snows (after winter was actually over) wasn't half bad. I got much less withdrawal this off-season because of the lack of snow.
I've always been curious as to why the bottom level is the level of choice. Why the top so riders can go a few feet higher?

I'm guessing it is because the attendent's microphone is on the bottom level.

Just a thought, but maybe they renovated the top level? since they hardly ever used it, maybe it got kinda nasty looking?

The biggest reason for not using the top level is staffing. There must be two extra ride ops working there to check and clear the doors for the upper level. Since most days the lower level doesn't even fill up, it's not good buisness sense to spend money for two extra people when they're doing nothing. Even with both levels running there is still only one op in the cabin. There's speakers on both levels.

The current cabin was manufactured by another company. There's a plaque in the cabin that says the name. I have no idea how to spell it.

If the line schedule called for both levels, we'd have to clean them both in the morning. It's really not as gross up there as you'd think it would be, especially after we cleaned it.

MainChallengeMan, I think the reason why the lower level is the level of choice is because the ride op is in the lower level. Should someone suddenly decide to go spastic, then the ride op would be ride there.

That and the manual controls are on the lower level...
