Why does the cabin on Space Spiral park in the middle of the tower? I've also noticed that the controls for it are inside the cabin, so how do they get it back down?
I belive it's the best position for the counterweights. Anyone else?
In regards to the controls. Didn't you know someone slept up there? ;) Actualy, I would assume there is another set of controls on the ground.

From my response in this thread
The carts are kept halfway up in order to minimize the range of motion of the cables. The less the cables bang against the structure, the longer service life they will have.

The main control panel is actually above the bathrooms next to Space Spiral. If you look at it, you can see the window. This panel isn't used for normal operation.
The reason it is parked mid tower at night is to reduce the amount of banging the cables make as the tower sways. Sometimes they don't and you'll hear bang bang bang bang bang bang...
