I was scanning the pages of a souvenir brochure that someone gave me from 1969, and came across something that caught my eye...
In this image, it appears that there are lights underneath the cabin of the Space Spiral. At first glance, and even in the scan, it looks like it's just the fireworks, but looking back at the original, and how the light is shining down the tower, it appears that they are actual lights.
Can anyone confirm whether they did really ever have lights on the bottom of the cabin? I always thought that'd be a cool idea, but never thought they actually had them.

If you look at this image (http://www.cedarpoint.com/_upload/inside_the_park/rides/tranquil_rides/space_spiral/space_spiral_02.jpg), it looks like the top of the tower has lights in it up against the support post. I don't think there are lights on the actual cabin itself. That would be cool though.
On a side note, I think they should replace the cabin with a new, updated one. One with A/C, glass you can see through, etc etc...
New glass and AC would be wonderful.

I always thought they should have repainted the cabin a different color. Maybe blue with the green Cedar Point logo with snoopy going around the edges.

Yeah they definatly need new.......is that really glass? I thought it was plexiglass.........I dont know why......maybe I'm just crazy.
Though Im for a new color scheme for the cabin. Or if not the cabin then maybe the top of the tower.
But then again, we already have one ride that has a huge CP logo on it.:)

I always thought CP's logo on top of Power Tower looked cool. *** Edited 1/2/2007 6:46:07 AM UTC by Gomez***

The chances of this ride getting some good R&R are probably going downhill fast. Space Spiral just isn't as iconic as it used to be (such as when it was used in many of CP's logos). With the Giant Wheel right next store, this ride just doesn't have much market. I know I would rather hang out on a ferris wheel for a while than be zoomed up and down the spiral without stopping.

I think the cabin did have the spot lights on the bottom when the ride was newer, and I know that it had air conditioning.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
I thought the a/c units were still there, they just never use them anymore?
I think if they made the ride more appealing (new colors, working a/c, etc...) and started using it in brochures and such, that guests would be more apt to recognize and ride it.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
The last time this subject came up, I recall us concluding that it'd be difficult to air condition a room that had multipled doors opening for several minutes at a time ever 3 minutes or so.

Doug, I'm not sure that "difficult" is the word you're looking for. Perhaps you mean "expensive." ;)

Okay... I agree, "expensive" likely is a better word. It's nice on those cold October days though... :)

It did have air conditioning until the mid 80's. I know because it was such a relief to take that ride in the sky. I remember visiting in 91 and the air conditioning was gone. I seem to remember lights underneath as well. The cabin used to have a circle of spotlights under it. I looked around and can't seem to find a picture with those visible. I will look closely when the park opens. I am sure that there were panels manufactured to cover up the light holes. Wish I could look right now! Patience......
