Space Spiral closed for the season.

I asked CP on their Facebook page if Space Spiral would reopen for Labor Day weekend. I was surprised that they responded, but the answer was not what I was hoping for.

Due to the construction zone near Space Spiral, it will not reopen this season.

I guess the forum didn't like my quotation marks.

Troika is also closed for the season but will be back next year.

Do we know that it is coming down for sure? Seems I have read that it is and that it may not be in this forum over the past few weeks.

Bob, in the press conference they held, it was confirmed that Space Spiral would be coming down, and since they weren't saving any part of it, they were just going to knock it over and let it fall.

I know there's not a lot of love for Space Spiral on this board, but if you were hoping to get a last ride, post a comment on the park's FB page.

Now that DT is down it wouldn't be too difficult to take down a section of the construction wall and put up some temporary queue rails to keep guests away from the construction zone.

I think rather than a safety issue, it comes down to staffing. It hasn't been this bad in years.

On the back side of Space Spiral where Disaster Transport was, there is maybe a total of 10 feet to the area under construction.

The ramps would not be accessible. In all honesty it's a safety issue. They still have a ton of material to move, break apart, clean up before that fencing comes down. If you think about it, the staffing of Space Spiral was in place until they had to put the fence up. Those on that crew were moved, as well as DT's crew. Some may have left for college, but there are plenty of associates in the park to staff it if it were to open.

But don't get your hopes up for posting on their FB page to get a last ride on it. Labor Day, Monday, is the last day of Daily Operation for the park....do you think they'd really move walls for construction, take associates off of their new rides and put off construction to let a few people who are posting on their facebook wishing for a ride (3/4 of which wouldn't show up for the day they'd decide)?

I am well aware that the chances of the park reconsidering their decision are slim to none. At least I can say I tried.

Staffing really is an issue this year. If you've been there in the last week or two you would see Magnum and Iron Dragon operating with 2 trains instead of 3 and Corkscrew with 1. According to the crews that actually work those rides, it is because there aren't enough people to staff an operation with the additional train. Thats with the park being fairly busy even on weekdays.

That's a bit odd, I was there Monday. Both Iron Dragon and Magnum were over staffed. Yet, ID ran 1 train and Magnum ran 2 due to rain. Not being understaffed. I've only seen Corkscrew run with 1 even during the height of the season.

Staffing is normal. Almost all Ohio universities are now on semesters and they all just started. It is normal to have a drop in staff due to this.

When I was at the park for the Gatekeeper unveiling, I walked over to the Space Spiral wanting to get a ride to see DT's destruction. While in line I heard a rumor it was the last operation day for SS and asked a worker, who confirmed it. I haven't seen it run since....

I got my last ride in on SS I am glad I did. I am not sad that they are not opening it, the reason is I want them to get working on our new one so there won't be any delays and it can open with the park on opening day next year.

Yeah the staffing I saw on Tuesday looked pretty normal for this time of year. Not that I like it, because Magnum was sporting a line all day when it could have been a 3-4 train wait if it was running at full capacity.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

I rode the Space Spiral for the last time on Monday August 13. Then the next day I went back into the park to ride a few more rides in that area and notice that SS was closed and they were starting to put up those construction fences.

I love Cedar Point
