I've noticed on the Gemini 100 Page, the aerial shots with the spiral in it, that it is half way up the needle, why is this like this in the off season? j/w

That's also the park poition at the end of the day. I imagine it has somethign to do with access to the inner workings if the mint. guys need to get into it after tha park closes. That and no one can get into it once it's shut down.

Yeah, I always thought it was a security issue, because the park gates are open at night to employee/maintenance traffic, and it wouldn't be wise to leave it like that.

HA...found your answer, from RideMan himself

On 3/7/2000, Rideman wrote:

I suspect that more than anything it has to do with putting the cabin and the counterweight at the same level in the tower, as someone else mentioned already. If you wander over to the Disaster Transport side of the tower, there is a little round access port at the bottom covered with an expanded-metal cover. If you take a peek through the expanded metal, you can see the counterweight appear as the cabin reaches the top of the tower.

In any case, if we assume that the counterweight is about the same mass as the empty cabin, then the two masses would hang in equilibrium at the middle of the tower. That's the theory, anyway...

I'm also willing to place some money on the access issue.. I KNOW what kind of things are found by sweeps in the morning before the park opens.. hehehehe

Red Garter Rob - not only around the park, though! I found one of "those" in the Disaster Transport trough on a trackwalk one evening. I'm not asking, and I don't want to know! Sheesh. No joke!

Cedar Point is a family park, not a park for making families!
