Sound like someone you know?

There's an article in today's Plain Dealer about a Cleveland man who recently passed away.

But the part of the story that caught my attention was this:

"He's the only guy I know who goes to Cedar Point when it's closed, just to look at it. My father never rode a roller coaster just once. But it wasn't just about the rides. He'd spend hours looking at the trains, flowers, plants."

He would have fit right in here at GTTP.

Indeed! :)

And if I lived closer, I know I'd be doing the exact same thing!

I have been that guy at least a few times.
Wow, I read this and it sounds exactly like me. I live about 1 hr. and 15 min. away from CP and we drive up there every winter just to sit in the parking lot and look at the rides. We then go out to dinner in Sandusky. Maybe this guy is a long-lost relative of mine!!! I also spend lots of time enjoying the plants in the park. I'd love a job at CP working in their gardens.

I have done the same thing at least once every winter since about 1988 normally on a Sunday. Reason why I started that tradition was because of Magnum construction then. We just had to take a Sunday drive to Sandusky to see how big that coaster would look in person, because it was unimaginable at the time of course. Since then I've done it every year just to see the park, then eat dinner somewhere in Sandusky. Part of this "tradition" is stopping at Cheese Haven in Port Clinton on the way!

If I lived closer to Sandusky, I'd be there probably once a month. Do they actually let you into the parking lot though when the park is closed? Isn't there security year round? Another thought: Anyone ever anchor a boat off the end of the Point and just watch? Obviously not in the winter, but it would still be fun to watch. Is there a restriction on how close you can come to the peninsula?

But then again, what do I know?

The only restriction if coming close by boat is how much water your boat needs under the keel.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
