soak city question?

Recently I read about a family that took their foster child to a campground to camp. Upon checking in, the Foster Mom of the little boy (that they were adopting) mentioned that he had aids. Shortly thereafter they were told he was not to use the showers or the pool and if they did they would be asked to leave. My family and I go to Soak City on a regular basis all summer long using all of the attractions. I thought it was wrong that he was barred from the water when at any given time the person next to you at any water park could have hiv or aids and not have to announce it. My question is, what is the protocol if there is blood or other foreign matter (the brown kind):) found in the water? I will admit when my 3 year old is in choo choo lagoon the water is much warmer than any other area!!!! Makes you wonder??

I would think they'd do the reasonable thing - Evacuate the pool and close it down until its cleaned up?

Amg,

The water in Choo-choo lagoon is always warmer than other pools. This is because it's deepest spot is only up to your knees. It has always been that way for as long as I can remember.

Also, when my kids were younger, I spent A LOT of time in Choo-choo lagoon. I can tell you first hand what happens when there is foreign matter sighted in the pool. They evacuate Choo-choo lagoon and shock the water. Sometimes they keep you out for almost an hour...or until the water tests to be "safe". Cedar Point takes this very seriously...or at least they used to when I spent all my Soak City days in Choo-choo lagoon. I don't suppose it's changed much.

It has not changed. It is still taken seriously as with any pool in Ohio that falls under the Department of Ag.

Folks AIDS cannot be spread via a pool.

In order for AIDS to spread you need a bodily fluid (with blood having the most viruses in it and other fluids having much less) from an HIV positive person having direct contact with the bodily fluid of another individual. It cannot survive outside a human body for more then a second or two, you are as likely to get AIDS from a pool as you are form a door handle (which would be zero.)

Thanks, I was unsure of what the lifeguards were doing when they make you get out of the water. I just felt sorry for that family & how bad they must have felt!! Especially when it involved an innocent little boy!
