Soak City Expansion for 2004

I got a mailing today from the Point with some coupons and info for next years season passes. On the front it says that Soak City will be getting one of those water playground areas with the big water bucket. I assume it will be much like the one at Oceans of Fun. After going to Oceans of Fun I was hoping we would get one of these.

Sounds like this will be a lot of fun!

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Given the year that CP has had with mechanical problems with TTD and the horrible summer weather, I guess it is understandable that some new attractions to Soak City seems to be the only new attraction for 2004. I was hoping for a new flat ride though.

I was thinking, was it CP's original plans to only have the additions to Soak City for 2004, or did they postpone some other attractions due to the mediocre year?

Only new attraction? You mean besides the Lighthouse Point expansion and the waterpark/hotel expansion that will cost tens of millions of dollars?

What time does the water show start?

People often forget that Cedar Point is more than an amusement park. Rides like TTD can go up b/c they making a killing on those hotel rooms.

...and I love staying in them. Especially the soon-to-be-expanded Lighthouse Point.

It's not war, famine, or pestilence; it's only downtime.

A Soak City expansion sounds exciting, I've been waiting for them to expand the water park for a long time

------------------
...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!

Yes, the Soak City additions seem to be the only attractions that CP is adding for 2004. IMO Lighthouse Point is a resort, as is the Radisson.

I agree with imadj, I thought that stuff was to be in the Raddison addition.
Maybe they got a good deal on 2...?

...and the most anticipated event of summer 2003 is...

The Matrix: Reloaded!

I wonder if it will go into the newer side of soak city or the older side. I think one of those funnel slides would be pretty fun.

Now tell me Cedar Point is running out of space.

And isn't CP a resort instead of just an amusement park? What is your point?

The context of the original post was that he made it sound like cap ex for the year would be low given the "mechanical problems with TTD and the horrible summer weather." I was making the point that this is simply not the case.

Actually it is going between Zoom Flume and Eerie Falls, This was brought up from my crew leader saying how are pretzel building was not going to be there next year. There was suppose to be 3 new slides as well I dont know if that was true.

Man, I hope a Master Blaster is a part of a Soak City Expansion!
All my point was is that given the difficult year that CP has has with the weather and TTD, is that a reason why there are no new rides planned for 2004? Soak City, Lighthouse Point and the Radisson improve the overall resort portion of CP, but they also cost extra money to enjoy them as opposed to the $43 that a majority of the guests spend.

CP and Cedar Fair, in the 2nd quarter, had a increase overall compared to 2002. Now is that increase only because of the higher ticket cost or did more people visit CP?

I believe that if TTD and the weather would have cooperated better the increase would have been more significant. Given these unfortunate circumstances, is that the reason for no new attractions for the park itself?

Yeah, they wait until the middle of August before they decide if they are going to put a new ride in the following year.

"Well its been a really profitable summer gentlemen, don't you think? How about a nice 500 ft inverted for next season? Any suggestions on the name?"

Yeah, that's how it happens.

It's not like there's never been a year without a new ride. 1995 comes to mind as a year where a lot of money was spent on resorts and Soak City.

Besides, the indoor water park is a huge investment. I haven't done the math, but I suspect at least as much money will be spent at Cedar Point for 2004 plans than was spent in 2003.

Exactly. They don't build rides every year regardless of the year they're having. In fact, having a down year is in my opinion more justification to build the next year, not less.

2001 didn't see any new rides either (unless you count VertiGo, which wasn't exactly a bank-breaking venture until it fell over).
