I know Soak City has its highlights of different slides, but i wish i could spend more than 3 hrs. there without having to do each slide 4x each! No offense to it, its a sweet place, i love water parks. I know they had just put another section in, but i kinda wish they would put some more slides in, like erie falls, i mean aside from water costs, is it really that much to put in slides compared to a coaster? It would be cool if they did, but i mean hey, its still sweet place to chill the next day after a long day in the park.
I've never been to Soak City, but the waterpark at MIA, Wildwater Adventure, isn't very big either. I don't really care for waterparks so I can't say much about them.

^ Then why did you.
Soak City is what it is. Some will find it more appealing than others. It certainly missed something without a wave pool but that was addressed and they now have a good mix of things for children and adults to do.
Personally, I could spend three hours just floating in the lazy river so I see no problem spending an entire day there. If I had a wish list I might wish for a Master Blaster and a Wave Flow but I don't think the lack of those attractions makes Soak City any less of a waterpark.

I've never been to SC either. I bet that's have the reason nothing is put in. With all of the competition from GBL and Kalahari and now CB there really isn't a market for an outdoor amusement park waterpark. People don't go to Sandusky for water slides, they go to ride coasters and other rides. But I would love to go there. However with GL's included I don't think I'll make it out there anytime soon!
There is no market for an outdoor waterpark? Um, ok. And newsflash: People go to Cedar Point and (GASP) do NOT RIDE THE ROLLERCOASTERS!
Can you believe it? Ridiculous, huh?
Cedar Point is a resort. People stay in the hotels for more than one night because there is a lot to do there...including the waterpark.
Now, I agree that there isn't much of a marked for Soak City during December and the rest of the winter months but it is plenty busy during the summer time.

I didn't mean roller coasters in that sense. They come to ride rides and go to an amusement park. I do not drive 1.5 hours to go to a water park. I have three around me. All I meant was that CP would rather spend capital improvement dollers on the actual park and not a side attraction. I'm not saying it doesn't do fine business during the summer. I'm not saying it doesn't serve its purpose in Sandusky. I'm just saying that they aren't putting in a world class waterpark. With that Lagoon place or whatever right down the street and a $15 million doller one down the highway.
I think a few more water slides would definately be a grand improvement. LIke someone said, CP is a resort, and people go to the park more often, but still visit the beach and water park. I know, personally, I spend a couple days at the park, then I go a day or two at the beach and soak city.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.
Question: Since CF parks usually base their capital on what their individual parks make, does this translate over to Soak City as well? Or do they base their Cap Ex off CP's profits?
Also just because an enthusiast drives 1.5+ hrs to ride the coasters does not mean the average family does. Remember the average enthusiast makes up a very small perportion of the general attendence at any given park on any day. *** Edited 12/14/2004 5:08:20 AM UTC by XFlight*** *** Edited 12/14/2004 8:51:31 PM UTC by XFlight***

Cedar Point continues to be a unique situation because of the resort. The on-site hotels, cottages, Challenge Park and water park all figure into a bigger equation.

Yes Chief Wahoo-!...i myslef go about on average 10 times a year, and i like to stay three days...come late...go ride some rides at night, and hang out in challenge park untill 12:00 a.m., next day i will spend whole day in the park. and on the last day i will stay in soak city for a good time of the day. All i was sayin is it would be fun to have more of a variety. And where does it say people dont go to soak city? wow, its always packed! its a fun place to hang out. (granted the beach boys songs overrrr and overrrr, but i guess its jsut like FuNkY tOwn in MF line!)
SC doesn't need to attract guests by itself. It's job is to *extend* a guest's stay. You need look no farther than the very attractive ride-n-slide pricing to see that. If it encourages what would be a day guest to spend a night, or someone who would spend a night or two to decide on two or three instead, it has done its job.
As for the park itself, we love it: family of four, kids aged 3 and 5 last season. My wife had to talk me into going the first time we did three years ago, but ever since I wouldn't even consider buying anything less than combo passes---we probably pass through SC's turnstyles 3-5 times per season. Most of that is during our "big stay" of 2-3 nights in midsummer.
I'm with airtime on the need for a slightly longer tape loop in SC, though. Yikes!

Brian, I'm just like you. With the exception of one visit years ago when SC was still new, I didn't visit until the '02 season. Now I find it imperative to get a combo pass.

Some people prefer cats to dogs. Some people prefer lounging in a waterpark all day to spending the day in the park. Cedar Point acknowledges a target audience which is both and as a result has turned the peninsula into a massive resort.
The Amazement Park
Cedar Point gets hot in the summer when your walking around all day we all know that. A waterpark big of small is a good place to go to cool off we all also know that.
Goodbye 2005 season!!!!
The resort side is fun. We went up there for the day, stayed at the Breakers, played golf, did the go-carts and checked out the beach. Soak City is ok and serves it's purpose. I can't say that I thought it was an exciting water park compared to what I have experienced in the past at other parks, but it did the job at keeping me cool that day.
