So now that there is a new problem to worry about.

Are we running close to the "mid-july-not-running-good-so-we'll-shut-it-down" deadline? They seems to have fixed the major kinks, but now with the little things comming up again.... what do you think?
what's going on now, I don't think it's nothing major, they already had it open so I doubt they are going to close it for the rest of the season, at least I hope they don't. But I will see it when I go tomorrow I guess.

Life has it's ups and downs, might as well make it on a coaster!

I'm not really sure about that. I hope they don't! The park did say that it would be their "last resort" to actually shut down the ride for the remainder of the season though.
I think they will continue to work on the ride until the end of the season.
As Jeff had said in another thread, (or something close it) Cedar Point will continue working on TTD and fixing it's problems, even if it is only opened/fixed/working correctly on the last day of the season.
That was by no means a direct quote, but I think that was what Jeff had meant.

In other words, Cedar Point will not give up on TTD!

I don't think the problems now are a big deal. Cedar Point stated that the ride may be down off and on so they can make minor adjustments. Anyways, it is scheduled to be open today so that is good.

Race For The Sky!

It's scheduled to be in operation today so as of now I dont think there is nothing major going on.

Well the trains are in the queue but I don't know how open it will be.

Ohio State, here I come!

Enough with the double negatives!: )

The ride was shut down yesterday, but people were working at the launch position much of the day.

Anyway, the whole "mid-July deadline" thing was, if I remember correctly, essentially retracted (or, more accurately, clarified) by the park just days after the Register article. Anyway, they basically said they have no intention of giving up on Dragster at all for the season.

I highly doubt we'll see the ride close for the remainder of 2003.

But if the park did decide to close the ride for the rest of the season, the plan I believe was to redo the entire hydraulic system, which would be a massive operation and time consuming.
oh I have no belief whatsoever that CP will give up on TTD, it just seems that when it isnt one thing, its always comming up with another. I really hope they dont go through with shutting it down for the season, but well have to wait and see.
Anyone who has been around the park in the last week can agree with me that Dragster has been running quite a bit. Yes, a couple of problems arose on Thursday night that kept the ride down all day on Friday...but the maintenance crews worked through the night to resolve everything with the intention of having it up as soon as possible.

Look at the status page on CP.com...they have every intention of it opening again today.

CP Maintenance 2003

i really would be surprised if Cedar Point would close TTD for the rest of the season....that mid-july deadline for closing it was only if they couldn't get it up and running by that time, and it has been up and running on and off for just over a week now

They still have the whole winter to iron out the problems and get it purring better than ever for next season and for many seasons to come.
Does anyone think that the "closing the ride" was an empty comment? CP, knowing they would have the major kinks worked out by the 4th makes this noble statement about closing the ride. Then we and the GP think it is a noble move by the park, when maybe it was just a publicity move? We got one person saying closing is the last resort... one saying it will close if it's not up. Maybe it was a P.R. move to make us think "oh what a great company they care enough about us to close the ride blah, blah blah". I love a good conspiracy.
well they are a great company and they said since we pissed off enough people we better get it together or at least stop saying if you travel half way around the world you'll get to ride TTD.

It was a good idea to just close the ride if they couldn't keep it open because it was killing their rep. for low down time.

And I'm sure they had no idea if when they fixed one problem something else would come up, but nothing did so it's running like they planned. So they won't have to close it now.

Its mid July now, and not one mention of CP possibly shutting down the ride for the season. Besides, TTD's been running pretty good for the past few days.
As far as I am concerned, Top Thrill Dragster is free of any major mechanical problems right now. I was there on Saturday and Sunday and it was running smoothly with only a few minor breakdowns during the day. From what I heard, it ran smoothly yesterday as well but it is closed for the day today. My guess is, Cedar Point is opening the ride for 5 or 6 days out of the week, and keeping it closed for 1 or 2 days for check-ups and needed maintenance. I don't think we have to worry about the ride closing for the season, unless, of course, the Hydraulic fluid becomes contaminated again. But for now, RACE FOR THE SKY!
Dragster, on another thread someone posted a ride report from yesterday which indicated the ride had a breakdown around closing last night, and then had a rollback with passengers, and at that point they gave everyone a front of the line pass. I suspect that is why it is closed today, which is slightly concerning. However, like you, I am optimistic, but last nights problems sounded too much like the past fluid problems. Apparently the train did not even come close to the top hat. Time will tell, and of course, kudos for CP keeping us in the loop - they truely are a class act.

Tom

Just because a train doesn't make the tophat doesn't mean that it is fluid problems. Sometimes there are just missfires. Xcelerator does it all the time. I've been in line for Xcelerator when a train launches and goes about 30 mph the whole way. All they do is roll the train back, restart the system (something I don't think Dragster has to do), and test a few times. However, this is where CP is smart. They noticed some malfunctions and they closed it, which in turn could avoid serious problems. Anyways, if you check the webcams now, they have the trains back on the track, ride ops are flooding the loading platform, and the line is spilling ALL over the midway. They could be preparing for an afternoon opening. And, yes, KUDOS FOR CP.
It is glitches in the system, every ride or roller coaster has bugs to work out, especially one so sophisticated, namely Top Thrill Dragster!
