Two people in my posse didn't feel like putting up with the rain, so they left early right after checking out of our hotel. So that means we have two Day 2 Cedar Point and Soak City tickets good for any day of the 2007 season. Now my question is when should we go? All I care about is riding the fun roller coasters with as short lines as possible. I was thinking some day the week of August 27-31. Surely the park shouldn't be all that crowded during that week because all the kids have to go back to school then, right?
In the past the last week of August has been prime time to go to the park, but in the last couple of years it's been just like any other week in the summer. Kids now go back after Labour Day in Michigan (and Ohio too I think). What makes that week even worse is that the crowds are still there but the staff isn't. Last year they only ran one side of Gemini, one side of Power Tower, and many food locations and shops were closed. I would recommend the one Bonus Weekend in September and hope for the best.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
I keep seeing people thinking Ohio kids don't go back till after Labor Day, but here in Canton & the surrounding districts, they all go back before that.
P.S. ^^^ People think Jeff is mean? Big babies ;)
Edit for correction, post got in before me :)

^^ - yeah, I was wrong on that part (about Ohio going back after Labor Day). I know it had been discussed back in the spring, as there was a pretty good sized thread going about it. Apparently though, the legislation never went through, and Ohio is back to school in the next week.
Michigan, though, doesn't go back till after Labor Day.

I'm prayin for a light crowd and some decent weather (i.e. dry). The temperature is not really an issue, I can come prepared for that. But if it rains.... well we all know what that means.

^ Actually, Sunday was a GREAT day, even with the rain.
They opened mostly everything up with only 1 train, Raptor and MF had 2 - but the lines were still only 1 or 2 train waits. It was sweeet.

Rain.
Mantis, Mean Streak, Iron Dragon, Blue Streak, Magnum and Gemini were all down to 1 train.
Raptor and MF were running 2, and Maverick just didn't even bother.
Next they are going to only want to run Magnum in temperatures above 65 degrees. And the ops will have to be standing on the exit platform to release the train.

^^Maverick was down mechanical all of Saturday evening and seemed to be down for the same reason on Sunday. I never saw Gemini open on Sunday, but I didn't arrive until mid-afternoon. Mine Ride and Corkscrew were also down to one train.
Back to the original question, that week you mentioned should be a decent week to go for small crowds, but nothing is certain. You could also try a Halloweekends Sunday if you're looking for lighter crowds as they are typically (but not always) somewhat uncrowded.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
Both Maverick and Gemini didn't open Sunday or Monday, at least that I saw. But both days were great for riding the other rides.
I'm going to have to agree that a Bonus Weekend is the best time to go.
It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.
Gemini was definitely open for a short period of time on Sunday. I remember it because my friend commented on how they were racing. We started walking toward it, and they closed it due to weather again, and I don't know if they ever opened it again or not.
