So I have a day in Cleveland - now what?

OK Clevelanders, here's the scoop. Instead of leaving after work on Friday for CP, we're going to wake up way early and drive as far as Cleveland, getting into town at about 1:00 pm on June 20. Staying at the Sheraton City Centre, so I figure to be in the "heart of it all" (to borrow a phrase).

The question is this: Now what do I do? I mean, if you were going to Pittsburgh, I've got a list of "must-see" things that I know about. The only thing in Cleveland that I'm aware of would be the R&RHOF.

Keep in mind that my 14-year old will be on this trip (hence, no bar hopping into the late night hours at the Flats) and we'll want to be up early enough to hit the park for a full day on Saturday.

So have at it... what's a poor guy from Harrisburg to do with 10 hours or so to kill in your town?

The only thing other than CP that Steelers and Browns fans agree on

Hey DBCahill....

Even tho you think of the Flats as bar hopping...there is a lot to do there in the daylight hours...I havent lived in Cleveland for almost 12 years..but there were always concerts and festivals going on down there. There are some GREAT restaurants..I most recommend the Great Lakes Brewing Co.!! (Try the Dortmunder Gold)

If thats not your speed you might want to head over the the University Circle and museum area...The Crawford Auto Museum is VERRRRY cool...even if you dont really like cars.

If the shopping thing is your scene...you are pretty much just a few blocks away from Tower City. Take the family up to the observation deck of the Terminal Tower.

If you are going to venture a little further away from downtown....take I 71 South and head to the Metropark Zoo. It's world renowned..and even tho you are in the middle of the suburbs..(Not sure if thats Brooklyn or Parma) you would never know it.

And if the weather is cooperating for you that weekend...theres always good ol' Lake Erie. Take a cruise on the Goodtime...or go rent jet skis at Edgewater Park.

these are just a couple of spts that i like to hit when i get to visit my old hometown.
Have a great weekend!

Great Lakes Science Center (China exhibit), Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame (Jimi Hendrix exhibit), University Circle, and the Cleveland Metropark Zoo and Rainforest are common answers. Lolly the Trolley is something a little different. Or take a tour of Jacobs Field - even though the Indians will be in Pittsburgh.

Since I work a couple of blocks from the Sheraton, and Pete and Tim are close - maybe we should have a pre-RGFD*M M.

R&RHOF is a must. Right next to that, the Science center is very good and also has an IMAX theater.

Other places I enjoyed were the zoo, the Museum of Natural History (or something like that) and Sea World(though its a little east of Cleaveland...right next to Six Flags). You can eat at the Hard Rock Cafe downtown.

If there is a pre-RGFD*M count me in on Friday!

I think a pre-RGFD*M is a great idea. I work in University Circle, so I'm very close to downtown. If it's a nice day, Shooters on the west bank of the flats would be a nice place to meet right after work.

Florida may have Disney World and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Question: How far away (or how long does it take) to get to the rock and roll hall of fame from Cedar Point?

------------------
My Dream: When I die.... I want to die on a coaster at Valleyfair or Cedar Point!

I would firtst do the rock and roll hall of fame then next door is the science center. After that go to tower city and shop it's close to your hotel. In tower city there's the Hard Rock Cafe have dinner. It time permits go down to the flats and see what concert is playing that night they have some really good concerts for less then $20. If I am not mistaken Chicago is playing that night.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is about 1 hr. east of CP. Just get on Rt. 2 east and follow that into Cleveland. There are signs on the highway as it goes through Cleveland directing you to the Rock Hall.

Just an addition to Pete's directions. Make sure you stay on I90 after it merges with Rt 2 in Elyria.
