I've heard that TC has the highest running costs in the park, but I may be wrong.
Just because those pumps are low-tech doesn't mean they don't use a lot of power to move that volume of water.
Being built back in 1986, I imagine TC must produce a minimum gpm (Gallons Per Minute) of water flow with constant volume pumps in it's sequence of operation. The pump motors are 480V AC, just like the chain drives on the roller coasters. However, the pumps can't be slowed down in intervals like chain lift motors that have been retrofitted with VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) without pushing X amount of water flow. Probably a much more basic design in comparison to its monstrosity neighbor across the Frontier Trail. [cough] STR [cough].

If you removed BOTH SRF & STR you'd have a nice patch of ground for a coaster. You could use SRF's pond for a "splash" landing.

SRF and Thunder Canyon are here to stay. They are decent capacity water rides that cater to a large audience and fill a need to cool down on those hot days.
Shoot the Rapids was meant to replace White Water Landing, but its way too wet and not as accommodating as WWL. I don't know its future but I highly doubt the ride panned out the way the park had anticipated. To me, it's really nothing more than a longer SRF with two big drops.
Is there anyone out there that still even makes traditional log flumes?

You have to understand that we tend to look at things differently than the regular public. For all we know, the regular park goers could be content with StR and the park has that data to continue to operate the ride as it is.
The only thing we can go by is what we see (or sometimes don't see). Like the boats only able to accommodate 8 people instead of 10, the initial modifications needed to the ride, it's higher than anticipated height requirement, and its limited operating season. That's where I think the ride didn't pan out like being a replacement for WWL.
So don't use our uninformed opinions as a basis for not obsessing over StR. Besides, PointBuzz wouldn't be PointBuzz without us being able to tease you about your obsession with that ride. ;)

I used to work in a store and the manager was a wine aficionado. On a whim one day, I told him I was making chili for dinner and what wine should I serve with it? After quizzing me on details -- black, brown or white beans? what kind of meat? which spices? -- he thought it over carefully and made his recommendation. (And then I went to the store and bought the same box of wine I always do.) His depth of knowledge about wine matched mine about coasters and he knew as little about coasters as I know about wine.
Yes, we pay attention to things in the park the general public doesn't.

No, noggin, they're not even "cheese", at least on this brand. They're just "American slices". Hopefully that doesn't mean sliced Americans (ouch).
