My hypothesis is, as said earlier, water levels were low. SRF uses the water to slow itself down so I guess the lower water level did not allow the boat to slow down enough before the turn and for lack of a better phrase "threw itself out of the channel." I have not ridden SRF but I have White Water Landing at Dorney Park. It is a twin ride and it is basically crawling when it gets to that point in the ride so that thing had to be carrying a lot of speed to hop that wall. Another thought... Maybe the lack of weight on the front cause the boat to kinda skim the water and carried speed all the way to its "dechannelment"

So is it safe to say nobody should be riding Thunder Canyon. After all it is the only ride not to have a malfunction.
Thunder can have a malfunction, and a serious one at that
It was one of the few rides at cp I never wanted to work, they even do evac drills as a result. E stops can be deadly for that ride.

I believe Thunder Canyon is one of very few Intamin rapids rides which has NOT, to the best of my knowledge, had a boat capsize.
It may also be the most trouble-free of all the Intamin rides at Cedar Point.

i worked thunder canyon its second year of operation in 87. while rafts were running empty we had an e stop and the back of rafts before the station turntable caused a raft to flip. thankfully no guests were on the ride at the time
Jr Gemini, the first Intamin coaster. Even 35 years ago Intamin was building rides that were restrictive to guests of exceptional size. ;)

with these 2 incidents within a few weeks apart I would think you have to start questioning the maintenance team at the park, and i didn't include the cable snap on skyhawk. Im beginning to wonder which ride is next and will it take a death to stop these mishaps?
Snake was an accident that did not involve maint. personnel in any way. Str as we know was an accident with no details investigation pending. Skyhawk was a malfunction for what we understand...
Cp maint. is a good group of people that put in a lot of hours to keep rides safe to keep the park at the top of the curve in regards to the safety streak. Not one fatality in the park due to rides or attractions. That streak earns my respect and my thanks, so no I don't question the maint. dept.

Statisticaly speaking a certain amount of poop is going to happen over time. Sometimes it just happens sort of all at once.
