Dear Emma the Coaster Girl, I am really tired of your no-smoking posts. WE GET YOUR POINT! First of all, even though CP probably needs to improve enforcing their rules. Let me point something out. You are going to break a law sometime in your life, and never get caught. A good example is speeding in a car. There is nothing you can effectively enforce. In order to do that, you have to have 1 police officer per person.... Also, everyone is alergic to something. I'm allergic to corn. However, I can't ask the US government to outlaw corn. that's obsurd and stupid. Just like asking CP to ban smoking. I don't smoke. I agree with you it's stupid and filthy. I also can't be around it. However, I put up with it. I don't care anymore. It's a fact of life. You're saying smoking is annoying. I'm saying that the most annoying thing is you stating in almost every thread smoking is annoying. Life is full of annoying things you don't want to deal with. However, the best thing to do is just deal with it, because society won't change. We live in the United States of America and means we are all entitled to our individual freedoms. I can do whatever I want, you can do whatever you want. Most importantly, that is what makes America, America. FREEDOMS. I'm proud to have freedoms. I'm proud to live in a country with freedoms. I don't need people telling me or telling other people they cannot do something.
Thank You.
1). Your rights are only good until they infringe upon the rights of others. You chose to inhale a toxic substance that also invades the air that others breathe. Plain and simple. You can make a fist and swing it in the air because that is your right...but if you make that fist and punch someone in the face you have gone beyond your rights. America is not a completely free society, never was, never will be. America grants as much freedom as possible, but it stops your freedom once you encroach upon the freedom of others.
2). It is impossible to be "Allergic" to smoke. Allergies come from the bodies inability to fight natural allergens (pollen, weeds, etc.). Some people have natural immunites to allergens that counteract the side effects. Smoke is an "Irritant" that causes many of the same reactions that allergens cause. Nobody has a natural mechanism to deal with smoke. Everyone is affected by it, granted some more than others.
There are very few "pro-smoking" arguments, and hardly any of them are very valid. It amazes me how people will adopt beliefs that support what they like to do...whether the beliefs are true or not.
You certainly do NOT need one police officer per person in order to effectively enforce anything.
For starters, most folks are self-policing. Good, law-abiding, rule-following folks for whom a policy or ordinance is enough to direct their behavior. To narrow it down to our particular case here, I would be willing to wager that the majority of smokers who patronize Cedar Point do not break the rules and smoke in line.
That leaves the ones that do. It is not a matter of the CP police being unable to enforce the smoking ordinance, it is their unwillingness to do so. It is quite simple to see a puff of smoke coming from a queue. A little fourth-rate detective rate will tell you within 20 seconds (or the next exhale) from where that puff originated.
However, the problem here is that these glorifed mall security officers (I know CP has a "real" police force, but puh-lease!) consciously choose not to enforce the non-smoking-in-line ban.
Personally, I don't have a stake in this. I don't smoke, never have, but the bar that I go to on Monday night's smells like the RJ Reynold's plant. I reek when I get home. I choose to frequent that establishment, knowing the rules. If CP has established "non-smoking-friendly" rules, those who do not wish to be around smoke should be accommodated within those rules.
That having been said -- Emma, Flisk is right. It's getting old. Put the soapbox away.

Surprisingly, there has been little, if any complaints from the smokers.

I am an ex-smoker so I am probably FAR worse than anyone who has never smoked.
Boy, is that true. I quit a couple years ago (after 27 years) and was I a SOB toward smokers for the first year! But, while I have to agree it's a person's right to smoke, I do think it's my duty to help people understand what it can do to them. Believe me, when you're flat on your back with chest pain so bad you can barely breathe, it's very hard to justify all those cigarettes to yourself. I'm not a jerk to people any more about it, just truthful.
And to you people who still choose to smoke - please - don't do it in line.
Now I'll step down...
