It would be neat if they took the old cable and chopped it into about 1 foot sections. Obviously it might not be a huge selling item in gift shops probablly but people on this site might buy them.
" OMG you wouldn't believe what I bought over the internet! A piece of Skyrides cable!!!!! "
No offence but that would be kind of stupid.:) They dont really hold any historic....or any significant value for that matter that would consider them to be sold.

You'd be surprised at what people will buy.

What are you looking for? A 100-page technical manual on how they do it? It's cedarpoint.com, not cableengineer.com.
No, but I certainly don't like Tony and Tylor. I met them this past summer too.
Pacific Park sells old links from West Coaster's chain for about $20 a pop. Neat souviner if you ask me.
Ok, so I guess there would be some significance to sell a piece of Skyrides......I guess a piece of cable just doesn’t sound to exciting to me.
Then again, I'd probably treat a piece of Dragster's cable as a souvenir. :)
So " OMG you wouldn't believe what I bought over the internet! A piece of Skyrides cable!!!!! " is a valid statement.:P

TTD_120mph, you obviously don't have a sense for sentimental value. It's not something to show off, it's something of personal significance.
Some people take pictures, others buy souvenirs, and a few attempt to rip off something that belongs to the park. Ben simply has sentimental value for a piece of Sky Ride. Most people that work at Cedar Point have at least one of those. I know quite a few that got burned failing their attempt at getting away with Cedar Point property as does Ben. On the other hand, I know someone who has gotten away with a piece of Dragster's cable.
As for T&T, I simply do not like them. I don't like them in person nor do I like their blog. That is my opinion and I don't feel like discussing them further.
Wait a minute, you jumping to conclusions here!
First off I would think that I do have a sense for sentimental value. A look in my room would show you that. And maybe a second glance at my post above would tell you that I am agreeing that a piece of Skyride could hold a value...just not for me. That being said, I never said anything to Ben.

Yeah, nothing sucks more than watching someone you call a friend try to steal something on the last night, and lose their $1200+ bonus over it.
I don't exactly understand why they take your ID when you leave, though. I guess I kind of understand, but it's not like they're going to use them again. They would be a nice momento for working at Cedar Point.
That said, I think just about everyone that works at CP has loyalty to at least one ride, and wouldn't mind something from the ride, whether it be a wheel from a coaster or the A-frame, or the Down due to Weather Conditions sign.
Fortunately, some of us still have the dignity to realize that stealing those things aren't the way to go, especially if a person decides they want to go back to work at the park.

Dave,
What about Demon Drop? Would that count or is it something different?
(in case you've forgotten, I ran down a list of obvious rides that use wire rope)
I'm reasonably certain that the lift on Demon Drop, like the catcher mechanism on the end of the run-out, uses a pair of roller chains...miniature roller coaster chains. If anybody here knows for certain, please speak up! :)

I think that Cedar Downs uses cables. I've never been under the hood on that ride.
I can't think of any others ride that doesn't use static cables if any.
