SkyHawk Week

Has anyone seen the newest OnPoint! Blog entries? Tony and Tyler are having a SkyHawk week, with construction updates and trivia about SkyHawk. Its interested to see why they choice the colors, the ride itself, and the location. What are your thoughts.

I'm thinking of a lame duck and not much more.

The entries have been excellent this week. It's a great insight into how a ride is born from an idea and not just slapped into the park RCT style.

I know today's entry "compared" it to maXair, but I would like to know why they chose SkyHawk and not a Topple Tower or Top Spin. Why go with something similar when they could have just as easily gone in a completely different direction with their addition.

I thought they explained that. Skyhawk is a thrill ride yet it isn't so intense that most people will walk by it. Top Spins look crazy and they don't look like fun to me (I'd get sick.) and I haven't really seen a Topple Tower in action so I can't give any feedback on that. It's a thrill ride that caters more toward the more so mid-sized ride other than the large rides they've put in for the past 8 years(ie: PT, MF, WT, TTD, maXair).

But my question is why put in a flat similar to last years? With the wide range of available flats out there, why was this one chosen?

1. Skyhawk has a lower height restriction of 48".

2. The ride doesn't spin.

3. It has only a lap bar for a restraint.

4. A similar ride had proven successful at another Cedar Fair park.

^ I'm sure plenty of other flats have those exact (well... depends on #4) features. One that (while not quite true in this case) wouldn't draw people to say "Just like maxAir" from the start.

What is a Topple Tower?.. And does anyone have any pictures of one of these?

It's basically an upside down maXair.

HAHA, funny.

Wow that is really werid looking. How does it work??

Just like maXair but its pivot point is on the ground, so it feels like a tower that is toppling. Hence the name.

And...nobody would look at a topple tower as being just like maXair? Sure, the ride experience would be completely different, but it looks exactly like one and, quite likely, a lot of average park goers wouldn't really want to ride it because it looks like maXair.

Those people on the scale model sure don’t look excited. A lady has her legs folded, 12 men wearing hats, an old lady with a purse.........sure doesn’t portray the idea of an exciting ride to me. ;)lol

But the person on the ground to the right sure looks excited!
