"Skyhawk" sounds familiar

Isn't there a ride somewhere else with this name? I think maybe an upside down ride at Seabreeze in NY. The name is ok but sounds like a name for an inverted coastermore than a screaming swing ride.

i know they've got a screamin' eagle .. but i can't remember a skyhawk. maybe, though.

Hi CP fans,

I am Brandi Barhite, a reporter at The Sandusky Register. I am working on a story about how maXair may seem a lot like Skyhawk. I mentioned this in my stories in today's paper, but I wanted to get some expert opinions from you all. My number is 419-625-5500 Ext. 311. If you live in Ohio, you can call me toll free at 800-466-1243 Ext. 311.

Thanks,
Brandi

Seabreeze is my home park. The ride you are talking about is the Screaming Eagle, as stated above. Sounds like it but it isn't.

Off topic but they have a classic coaster there that is pretty fun. I believe it was built in the 1920's.

Brandi-

There are a few differences between maXair and Skyhawk. If you notice, maXair is a swinging pendulum. Skyhawk does not spin, but it swings.....very high and very fast. It's essentially a large swingset that we all had as kids, where our parents would push us to get us higher and faster. But, instead of our parents, it used pneumatic technology similar to what is seen on Power Tower. So basically, every time you go up and down, you're feeling more than the force of gravity.

maXair is definately similar, but the ride experience will be completely different due to the lack of spinning, but it doesn't seem like it would be any less thrilling.

I hope this helped. (If you want an interview just email me - Rcjoshman@aol.com ;))

2005/2006: Cedar Point - Millennium Force
2007/2008/2009: Walt Disney World - Magic Kingdom - Tomorrowland Speedway
2008: Hard Rock Park - Maximum RPM! Opening Supervisor
2008/2009: Universal Orlando - Men in Black: Alien Attack Team Leader, Guest Services Coordinator

I read somewhere that Skyhawk was the name of a thrill ride at Paramount's Great America similar to Flight Commander at PKI. Oh well most wont remember.

Seabreeze is a great little park. I have been there twice. It has been years however. About 4 years before the carousel fire. Jack Rabbit is a sweet coaster and love that curved tunnel at the end. Rumor is that the classic much missed Shooting Star at Coney Island's infamous 360 tunnel was inspired by this ride. Jack Rabbit is also the last coaster my dad ever went on.

Back to Skyhawk I think many of you will find the ride experience quite different and I think many will actually like Skyhawk better than maXair do to the lack of spinning.

Yeah it is a nice little park. It would be cool if CP got a ride like the Screaming Eagle. Very fun ride. Although they would need a bigger model.

Skyhawk, although spelled with a space, is an attraction located at Marineland Niagara.

Sky Hawk - lifts you high above the Marineland funscape for an awesome view and floating experience. (54" unless with an adult. Minimum height requirement is 32").

Brandi,

I do not live in Ohio anymore, but recently moved to Indiana three years ago. Like Josh I would love to help you out in explaining the major differences between Skyhawk and maXair. Just look in the Skyhawk thread that is sticky if you want to know my opinion, or you can email me at coasterpics@gmail.com.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Brandi,

There is a pretty decent difference. I have ridden the other HUSS Giant Frisbee, Delirium at PKI. it's the exact same ride as Maxair.

The Frisbee rides have a much slower, more gradual motion than the Skyhawk type Screamin Swing rides. Frisbees have a gradual, easy accelleration, plus, they swing.

Skyhawk type rides swing back and forth VERY fast, with very fast accellerations from the compressed air system.

Dorney Park has THUNDERHAWK.

That's what I thought of when I heard the name.

When paying 6 million for a new ride, we really shouldn't have to try to figure out differances between maXair and Skyhawk. Yes there are differances, but since CP definately needs buzz to help attendance, we should have a ride for '06 that is completely differant from maXair. Not one that we are trying to list possible differances.

Well I think I'll agree with CP creating a buzz because, this morning, channel 7 news (Detroit) had a report on SkyHawk and the new price cuts.

Oh and I noticed that the Marineland SkyHawk ride is like the one that Hershey Park has called Flying Falcon. http://www.hersheypa.com/attractions/hersheypark/rides/detail.asp?id=8&Submit2.x=33&Submit2.y=7

TV stations (especially) in the Detroit area regularly carry stories on CP when they are available.

This is nothing new...

Sorry, I know this is off topic, but since someone mentioned "Screamin' Eagle", I just had to mention. That is the name of my very first wooden coaster, at Six Flags St. Louis. A nice John Allen out-and-back built in 1976. I remember going on that after only having been on the Mine Train before, and I loved it! Cedar Point beats that park right out, though. We sure are spoiled up here.

BTW, the "Sky Hawk" at Marineland looks like what many parks called "Condor". http://www.flatrides.com/Ride%20Index%20Pages/condor.html

True.
I guess they decided to do a story besides something that dealt with murder, or scandals, or whatever. I'm getting sick of hearing about those because that’s all that happens around here.:) (kidding BTW)

Are you? Main difference between Windsor news and Detroit news:

"In Windsor news, new speedbumps at the local Wal Mart are too large and are being removed."

"In Detroit news, 3 men were gunned down in a Wal Mart parking lot, the suspects were last seen heading west."

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

That's why Real World Detroit is really Real World Royal Oak.

"The next Real World is going to be shot in Detroit and so will several of the cast members." Gotta love SNL...
