Sky Ride

Glad I can be of service Ben. :)

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Yeah, that ski lift site is addicting. Amazing how there is a fan site for the most obscure things.

Anyway, just poking around it seems that the Von roll type 101’s at amusement parks are slowly going away. There was once one at every major park it seemed. The lift part of Von Roll went out of business, so parts are likely becoming scarce. We’re lucky to still have one!

Here are a few sites of abandoned type 101’s. Eerie pictures, but some you get a close up look at some of the in’s and outs.

Maybe we can do some destruction test on these ;). *** Edited 5/24/2007 7:29:19 AM UTC by Joe E***

have you ever looked at the top of the carts?they are strapped onto the wire and if it were to break the wire would fall and the carts would be hanging on it be if someone got too scared and fell......you know wat would happen!!=(

HUH?

We got to ride a 120 person gondola up to Ober Gatlinburg last week. It was a 2 mile ride in an enclosed gondola. The trip up was on a nearly full gondola, and it would rock pretty violently as it went of the towers (but this was expected as the weight shifts). It wasn't as bad on the way down with far fewer people on the ride.

Gee thanks for giving us that link Pete. I have wasted more time than I should have on that site.

http://skilifts.org/chairlift_facts_eskimoliftdestruction.htm is interesting

Thanks, Ben. I'm not sure why the video costs $500 to purchase though!!!???

The scariest part about that page is that hitting the wrong stop button caused the ride to accelerate. That sounds like a bit of a design flaw to me.

I've ridden that Gondola before Jugga. There isn't much to see at the top of the hill, but it's the coolest thing in Gatlinburg.

Yeah, we went to see the bears, and then wandered through the shops and had a chuckle at the people trying to skate (I always get a chuckle watching new skaters, don't ask why and its not a mean-spirited thing, I just get a chuckle).

Then we headed back down. Wasn't much to see, but the gondola was fun. It was cool seeing some of the houses built into the mountainside as well.

Or how they managed to get roads where they have roads. Go anywhere down south to an ice rink and it's good for a chuckle. :)

The road that goes to Cherokee is pretty cool too. Just not when it's snowing and you're stuck behind retards with Florida plates.

LOL. That's how we got there. We were in Hendersonville, NC for a wedding and decided to come through the mountains rather than taking the expressway "around" them. It was a nice drive, but due to it being Sunday of Memorial Day weekend Cherokee was PACKED. So it took a little while to get through. But the scenery through the National Park was absolutely beautiful.

Usually on the Giant Wheel, I'm fine but at night if I look out towards the lake, I'm terrified. Also, I'm normaly fine if you stick me on any coaster but the first time I rode MF this year, I freaked out because I had just rode Mantis and I got used to the OTRS and I didn't remember how it felt to go up a 310' hill at 45 degrees.

I think about the cable breaking everytime I look at Sky Ride. I'm guessing if the cable did break, which is something you probably won't see, there would be mass chaos at the park for awhile.

I usually end up freaking out on Giant Wheel and Sky Ride. This year I actually almost had a panic attack on Power Tower drop side. I had to keep my eyes closed the entire time at the top.

I'm fine on any coaster though. *** Edited 6/7/2007 3:31:18 PM UTC by delphi94***

I don't worry about Sky Ride. Cedar Point hasn't the choice but to keep it well maintained. Just think of the OHS*** fines. Or better yet Insurance price increase. Even better yet, the lawsuits over the 50+ deaths. Also, this would be a big red flag in a lot of potential guest's minds about the park for years to come.

It would be really stupid on Cedar Point's part to do anything but their best to keep such an incident from happening.
