Sky Ride History

I did a little search of PointBuzz and didn't find the answer, so forgive me if I overlook it. I came across some old picture of Sky Ride and the cabins look rounder. Have the cabins been changed and if so does anyone remember what year that took place?

I think the current Sky Ride cabins come from the old Frontier Lift sky ride

Yes, that is correct.

The original Sky Ride cabins were cylindrical. When I worked there in the mid 1970's they had been replaced with the rectangular ones. I'm not sure but I would surmise that they were changed out around the time the Frontier Lift was installed which was originally fitted with the rectangular cabins. When the Lift was removed they kept the cabins for spares and what they could salvage from the drive machinery.

The original cabins were only two passenger cabins.

4 summers of employment in ride operations does stuff to you.

Yes, the original cabins were round and only seated two people. They were updated to the four person cabins a number of years before the Frontier Lift was built.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

It was in 1967 when they went to 4 seat cabins.
