Six Flags underestimated loyalty to CP

If you haven't checked out the article from the Plain Dealer posted in the News section, do so! It's an interesting read, and if you're a CP fan, it's a good way to brighten your day ;) . I especially love the part about the advertising - remember what we were all saying in that one thread at the beginning of the season? :)

------------------
"Meh."
Wicked twists: 8
Danger: Hgih Voltage!

I remember those commercials too. If everyone at SF had the same attitude as that *****y girl saying "It's so much better than Cedar Point", no wonder their attendance is down. You would think that a company as large as Six Flags wouldn't resort to these sort of mud slinging type ads,but I guess I thought wrong.

The main reason for me not going to Six Flags is the ride there, Rt 43 is one lane each way, parking is impossible, the cops wait to harass people coming out of there,it just plain sucks. I really want to ride their new coasters from a year or two back, but I can almsot get to CP in the same time it takes me to get into Six Flags (from Cleveland)

Whoa! Either you're taking a bad way to Six Flags, or I wish you could tell me this nice fast way to get to Cedar Point. ;)

From Parma? 480 to 80 to 2 (at 58) to Rye Beach to Cleveland Rd. 55 minutes, tops.

It's not only the "loyalty" that they underestimated, it's all the "little things" too. Six Flags has cheaper seasons passes & admission, they include a water park, a marine park, etc. People should be flocking there. It should be a "no-brainer", right?

Wrong.

They have horrible cycle times on their coasters (any ride for that matter), they don't have a particularly clean park, or friendly employees, or the level of quality in their shows, etc.

Sometimes, it's the little things that count. That's what keeps us going to Cedar Point year after year (BTW, SFWoA is closer to us).

I made my 1st visit to SFWOA last October for the GOCC Fall Freak Out. I guess I was expecting a horrible time due to all the stuff I had read about that place here and on CB. Quite the contrary, I had a great time, LOVED Batman KF and XFlight, the only coaster down was Serial Thriller. The ops were very nice (could have been because I had on my CP employee jacket) our lunch was very good. I had NO complaints! As a matter of fact the journey there and back is a cake walk (ALL highway) for me compared to the 2.75 hour one way, 2 lane back road cow and corn route I take to CP 15x/season. So my 1st experience with SFWOA wasn't bad by far. Would I return? If someone was driving, and buying the tiks, maybe.

However, I had heard all about their commercials and didn't see one until several weeks ago. I almost fell over. I had NEVER seen such low down dirty advertising before. Yes my devotiion (aka obsession) with CP played a big role in my personal feelings for the ads. So I posted a thread on CB asking anyone if any other amusement park goes out of their way to "dog" a competitve park the way that SF did CP. The threads that responded was making points that several companies compare themselves to others (McDs vs BK, Pepsi vs Coke, Honda vs Toyota...etc) and they NEVER answered the actual question if any other park stoops to THAT level or is SFWOA the only one that feels its necessary.
I felt the ads were low down and dirty, not to mention something anti-CP was said TWICE.
I feel that for someone to say they pass CP to go to SFWOA would be like someone saying they go past WalMart to go shopping at KMart! ;)
Hopefully SFWOA will try to stand on their own feet for '03 but my $$ says they won't.

Honda vs Toyota? Toyota wins! ;)

I go past Wal*Mart to shop at K-Mart! (Well actually I don't because K-mart is closer but I would if I could!)

I visisted SF a few weeks ago with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised. Their selection of rides was superb. They've got a winner in X-Flight, Villian, and Batman. Their ride ops were nice (not the fastest, but I'm spoiled from the CP speed) the park was decently clean. I actually believe this is more of a family park then CP. There are many more kids attractions. The Wildlife side was a great acquistion for the park.

Now the negatives, the parking was atrocious. The lot is in horrible condition, there are only 2 parking attendents to take money. Walking through the metal detectors was a nightmare. Every 2nd person would go off meaning the line would be held up. Lockers were $10 for the same size lockers as CP's $.75. Raging Wolf Bobs made Mean Streak feel like Millennium Force and the lack of a transportation system from RWB to the X-Flight side was very difficult on feet.

In conclusion, SFWOA could very well be competing with CP if just a few things are improved about their park.

Oh, and Raptor Jo, Honda doesn't make trucks so obviously Toyota trucks would be better. But, Honda cars are far superior to the workmanship of Toyota.

I don't think anyone questions the quality of their rides. That has never been an issue.

What I don't get is how people say that CP has fewer kids attractions. Add them up... Camp Snoopy, Gemini Kids Area, the original Kiddieland, Snoopy playground, the ice show, the amphiteater in Camp Snoopy and various other rides that are kid-friendly.

And you've obviously not owned many Toyotas.

I would say the exact opposite than you. I would drive past a K-Mart to go to Walmart, but thats probably because I hate Martha Stewert. ;)

I think Six Flags needs to realize that dumb advertising like that actually hurts the park.

"In conclusion, SFWOA could very well be competing with CP if just a few things are improved about their park."

Very true indeed. Unfortunately, those few things have not been improved over the past THREE seasons and most likely won't unless the drastic happens...like incredibly low attendence numbers.

The commercial is over-hyped IMO, and it's not like SF invented the "we're better then them" commercial either.

We're finaly getting indications from the higher-ups that there are problems at that place, let's see if they fix the real ones.

...and by the way, throwing in a new coaster will not get them equal to or above their 2000 and or 2001 attendence figures. Although if you read SF's press transcripts and such you get the feeling they think that's all you need.

Yes, they do. Honda makes the CRV and the Pilot.

As long as we're talking about Japanese car companies, I personally prefer Mazda.

So what's better; skydiving or riding in Raptor's front seat?

Like Jeff said-if they forego the Hyper project they got approval for, they might as well not open next year :)

Seriously, SF will eventually do better when it is not such a hassle to get into the park (Rt 43,parking lot condition,etc.).
