Six Flags Ohio Announced

Wow! I thought it would be posted all over by now. The Plain Dealer announced this morning the 40+ million dollar plans officially, though some attractions seem uncertain still. To no surprise...160 ft. floorless in a Gotham City area, 4,000 feet woodie in Western Town that stretches the length of the park, Bugs Bunny Seaport, Hurricane Harbor (new slides and lazy river), a kiddie coaster, a Superman ride that sounds like a Hammerhead Stall. The PD also said that the park formerly known as Geauga Lake would get 40, yes 40 rides next year...must be a lot of kiddie rides, water slides and flat rides. The PD has a map of where the attractions are going.

Good news for CP though. There are major concerns in the area about traffic and, from the PD map, the park looks totally landlocked. *** This post was edit by net on 12/8/99. ***
WOW! Thats a lot of coasters too! Heck thats a lot of everything. For you Detroiters it was also in the news this morning on Channel 2 and 4. It will probably be on the 12:00 news as well as the 5, 6, and 10 o'clock news. It may not be competition to CP, but it will most likely be competition with PKI as well as several smaller parks in the area that so far (as I know) haven't announced any major plans for 2000.

"Six Flags Ohio"? What a dumb name. Ick. I don't think I'll be using that one.

I've been hearing on the radio about the press conference today...not sure what time. Now the radio has been saying 20 new rides...so we will wait and see. I guess it depends on your definition of a ride. The Plain Dealer said 40. Man that's a lot.
The press conference is set to start at 2pm. I'm excited. I hate the name. I'm a hell of a lot more excited about MF though.

The Vain Pleader is wrong (big surprise). They're only getting 20 rides. If it was 40, they'd have more than Cedar Point.

So who is the dumb ass at Premier Parks who decided on "Six Flags Ohio?" Ohio? It's a crappy little park in extreme Northeast Ohio. Is someone in Marietta going to consider this park a representative of Ohio?

I'm glad I got my season pass for The Park Formerly Known as Geauga Lake, and I'll get my fill of the new rides this summer, but mark my words... GL won't get crap for the next four or five years.

I'll still call it Geauga Lake.

Net made a mistake. The Plain Dealer article says GL is getting 20 rides. You can read the article at http://www.cleveland.com/news/pdnews/metro/f08flag.ssf

Does anyone think the 180' tall U-shaped track coaster could be an AirThrust 2000?

I think this is Great News..You knew it was inevitable that Six Flags would make these improvements sooner or later with the kind of capital they obtain..It will for sure make Ohio the Roler Coaster Capital of the World!!
Looks to me they are going to have a lot of problems. They don't even have a spot picked out for one of their coasters yet!

Maybe it was a typo in my version, but the hard copy of the PD did say 40 rides. I know that for a fact because I did a double-take when I read it. We do get a very early issue of the PD, so maybe they caught the typo and changed it for the later issues and the web. Who knows. FOR THE RECORD...I thought 40 rides was impossible and probably a typo, unless they counted a slide as a ride.
Could the U shaped launched coaster be Intamin's "Impulse coaster" ? There is one in Tokio, Japan called Linear Gale. My understanding is that it is like the "hamerhead stall" but inverted, and with non-rotating cars.
Another six flags amusement park? I love it!! The more parks the better, I travel every year to at least 3 different amusement parks around the states, and I think Six Flags will do alot to this former park! And YES CP will alway rule, but I love going to different parks also!

Likes her coasters like her men, fast and furious! *** This post was edit by tohot2se on 12/8/99. ***
I remember reading a chart in a newspaper, and it said that GL had about 30 more rides than CP, but I think they were including the games, food, etc. Mabye they're getting 20 rides and 20 new food stands, or something.

Some people, not Cedar Point, use "rides" and "attractions" interchangeably.

I live in Aurora, Where Geauga Lake was located. It may have not been the biggest park, or had the best rides. But it was always an enjoyable experience. I find it sad that the Amuesment Park Giant Six Flags is taking over our little park. They are destroying history. They will also destroy my town. Route 43 is only two lanes people, wheres everyone gonna go? Whats next door to Geauga Lake, well besides Sea World, its an open field, guess who owns it... A company who wishes to build a mall last I heard, I dunno, I think I am going to have to move. Just remember, just cause its not the best doesn't mean u have to ridicule it and blow it off. Just sad that no one else will experience what was Geauga Lake
We do have three of the biggest park chains right here in Ohio though. one Paramount, two Six Flags/Premeir, and two Cedar Fair. We have others not to far away as well. All we need now is a Busch and Disney Park. Of course I will still visit them no more than a couple times a season. I have Millennium Force and Magnum XL-200 to look up to. Plus I have to spend some quality time with Paddlewheel Excursions.

Ohio only has one Cedar fair park. They already have a Busch park. They own Sea World. I wouldn't mind a Disney park in Ohio. Didn't they originally plan to build one in Toledo?
Forgot about Sea World! Soak City is a seperate park isn't it. It has separate admissions though I am the only person I know who makes a trip just for SC.

Hey AuroraMan... How can you stand to live up there with the traffic engineering as screwed up as it is? Yes, if the Six Flags thing works the way Premier hopes it will (my feeling is that it won't, but that's another matter), the traffic up there is going to get worse than it is now, at certain hours of the day. But consider this...Why is it that when OH-43 makes a left-hand turn in Streetsboro, there is a protected-turn arrow which only allows three vehicles to go through...when almost every car going through the intersection wants to follow OH-43? Why is it that the traffic signal at the Sea World EXIT favors the Sea World exit (about three minutes green) over OH-43 (about 45 seconds green) at 10:00 in the morning? Can we hope that one of the results of this Geauga Lake expansion will be engineering improvements on the existing roadways surrounding the park? That would benefit *everybody* up there. --Dave Althoff, Jr.
