Site Preparation--post Area 51...

Yesterday at the Point, I saw some site preparation beside the Area 51 wall on the side by the "guess you weight" booth. There was a significant amount of vegetation cut down and/or flatened. You could see right to the wall and see a bright orange marking either on or under the wall.

They haven't taken any trees by the booth yet, and I hope they keep them, or at least a few because they are very cool looking.

I suspect that since they have started site preparation here that they will begin other places as well, or expand in the area beside the wall.

Knowing what it is I have to say I am very concerned about that entire midway. It has a nice lush feeling to it right now, especially the area around Troika.

They better do their best to maintain that...

I agree, Jeff. With whats coming and all, I always did like walking by the "waterfront" where PE is currently located. But, I am sure that with as much effort thats going into this ride, landscaping will have a definite role....I hope!

Sounds like a loading/unloading station or a lot of support is going in there. I'de guess that if a lot of trees are chopped, they would try and replace those with nice planters and or sapplings. Have faith, all usualy works out over there.

That's the problem. The last time they built a huge ride with MF, they took down tons of trees. They never planted any trees throughout the queues or between the railroad and MF queue. Maybe they were afraid that people may have turned them into gum trees like by Mantis, but this never happened with Magnum's trees. They never planted any trees in close proximity to the ride, they just removed them. I'm just afraid that this will be the same thing that happens with the new construction.

CP bound, good point. It would be nice to see a few trees around MF's queue or something. I really hope they try their best to preserve trees and such. Learn a lesson from Holiday World and their two world class wooden coasters, they only cut down the trees they had to.

If Cedar Point needs more of anything, it has to be trees in those unshaded areas. Man, it gets hot out there.

I know what you mean, Anonymous, my mom almost passed out in line for Blue Streak one hot July (literaly) because it was so hot and she was dehidrated.

I agree about the the trees 100%. I hope they don't ruin that lushness that gives so much relief during hot summer days. I was glad they left the giant trees at the entrance of the Frontier Trail when they put in the Millennium Force. I thought they did a great job there. All of the trees and vegetation are such a nice appealing part of the park.
Yahhh...... (dreamyly)

OH! (snaps out of it)

while your slightly funny sarcastic humor is, I'm sure appreciated by many people, I was referring to taking pictures of the cleared area, I don't waste my time on orange markings, do you?

Dang, so there are no pictures of the orange paint marks? I've seen cleared land before, but orange paint marks.. That would be something! Sigh, I can't resist being a wise ass, it's second nature. Don't worry, no one is denying that you are appreciated. I for one appreciate you taking your time to bring me 500 miles closer to the action.

I agree that they need to keep as many trees as possible. The trees between the lagoon by Iron Dragon and Chaos have always given that whole area a good feeling.

I'll never forget staring at the orange markers in the trees back by Cedar Junction in '99. I got tons of pictures of orange spray paint, mounds of dirt, and chopped up trees.

I was there on 8-16 and 8-17 and saw the vegetation cut down. For people not 'in the know', me being one, it was nice to see some action in the area. I have no idea of the stats of the ride or the layout but it is fun to dream a little. I do think a four hundred foot hill in the 'area 51' site would be an amazing site. I was also thinking if the 'GP' even thinks about what they are building. I did not hear any say 'I wonder whats going on behind that wall' in my few times Ive been there this season. If this ride turns out to be the 420 ft. 110 mph monster, the 'GP' is going to be floored. I also had a chance to chat with Monty Jasper, he was making his daily rounds I guess, but didnt because I though he would think I was crazy. I highly doubt he would have given any information out but you never know.
raptor2, I talked to Monty once while he was making his "daily rounds". When asked about Area 51 and if it might be like Xcelerator he said "Hmp, maybe in the future".

If it is a huge coaster like pretty much all of us think it will be, at least it won't be as long as a run from the gate by the Magnum. Another perk for resort guests ;)
