Sink??

Okay this could sound kinda random... Could (and/or will) Millennium Force sink? That would suck, but is it possible and will it?
Oh no! Not this again.
I think that this thread should win an award; the first to be closed on the new-improved GTTP!!

This was excessively disscused over at the old GTTP. There was a big rumor going around that the Magnum was sinking. This rumor was started when a newspaper posted it on April Fools Day. This is not true of course. *** This post was edit by CPgenius on 11/29/99. ***
Ok all you old heads, be NICE!

Remember... we're being nice to people. :)

Let's consider this: $27 million is an expensive mistake to not consider the soil on which you build such a ride.

The concrete footers are poured down to the level of solid bed rock. The entire construction site is very soft... it's like walking on the beach (just ask my calves the day after walking through it). However, there is nice solid ground many feet below the surface, and it will securely hold the coaster up.

Of course, it wouldn't be the first. How much did Drachen Fire cost? :)

This is kinda off topic but a funny story. One of the Friday's last year at halloweekends I was waiting to get in the park at the Marina entrnace. There were these two older ladies infront of me, and they were talking on how the Magnum was sinking and how this was going to be the last season for it. As luck would have it I was wearing my B&M shirt. For those of you that have not seen the B&M shirts, they say B&M in big letters and the words Consulting Engineers Inc. They heard me laughing behind them, and I told them that the ride is not sinking and its not going anywhere, giving them the basic speil. Then they turnaround, and the one turns to the other and says "gee he must be right, he is an engineer." One of the funniest things I've heard at the PO!NT.

At the dawn of the new millennium they all bowed down to CP realizing they lost the war.

No, no,no... Disaster Transport is sinking! I wish!
DT? Really? Cool, it'll be a real dark ride now!
I'm not familiar with Drachen Fire, what is it?
Drachen Fire is a steel multi-element fiasco that Arrow built in 1992 for Busch Gardens Williamsburg. It was reprofiled in 1995, ceased operation in 1998 due to guest complaints and low ridership, and could be yours today for pennies on the dollar. Wanna buy a coaster, cheap?

It's one of the reasons that, as Jeff put it, we're not likely to see anything new from Arrow around CP unless they reinvent themselves.

I really think Drachen Fire gave Arrow a bad name. I rode Drachen Fire back in 1994. The first half of the ride is fantastic. But the second half truly gives you a neckache. I can honestly say that I have never felt pain getting off a coaster, except for Drachen Fire. It's a shame, because visually it is a beautiful looking coaster and had a lot a potential. The first hill is incredible, unusual, but incredible. For those not familiar with it, when you go down the first hill (150-160 feet), you actually go around a corksrew-type loop (on your way down the hill). *** This post was edit by net on 11/30/99. ***
What were the problems they were having with Drachen Fire? I don't recall hearing anything about this. Did they tear it down?
