Since we have discussion on Wind closing rides....

I am curious how fast does the wind have to be blowing to close down rides? What also effects this? And what rides get closed?

I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly, Magnum and SkyRide will operate until the winds reach 20mph. TTD and Millennium Force will operate until winds reach 25mph. I'm not sure about the rest. WT never went down unless it was basically like a monsoon outside :). The best way to determine if everything is running is if SkyRide is operating.

No expert but I think we have a few too many threads on this topic...

I've seen Magnum operate many times while Sky Ride was closed for wind. Those two rides can't have the same wind limits.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Each ride is dynamic in what winds will require it to be shut down. Not only does wind effect the ride, so does temperature and wind direction. Sky Ride is probably the most sensitive wind ride in the park, which usually means wind gusts over 15mph will cause the ride to be shut down. most other rides are not in any danger till winds approach 25mph sustained.

I worked on Raptor in 2009 and we went down for wind mainly in May and Halloweekends due to a combination of colder temperatures and strong lake winds. If we had a sustained 25+ Wind coming across the bay (out of the WSW) then we needed to have at least 4 rows of weight filled at all times to ensure trains moved comfortably through the MCBR. Once winds grew to 30+ then the ride would be in danger of going down, especially if temperatures were below 60.

TTD has a safety system that monitors the wind at the top of the tower. If the top of the tower measures at least 3 minutes of wind sustained at 35mph or more the ride automatically e-stops. Magnum needs a wind coming off the lake to be shut down, or anything over 45. Same is true with MF. Gatekeeper is a lot like Raptor from what I have herd so if Raptor is down for wind, expect Gatekeeper to be down as well.

I always look at the wind forecast before I visit any park. If winds are forecasted to be above 30mph and gusting over 40mph expect several major rides to not operate. Even the tiny zamperilla rides have a 33mph wind limit!

I was at the park for about four hours today.

WindSeeker and the Sky Ride were down the entire time. GateKeeper and Dragster were on and off. I never saw Magnum or Millennium down once.

1. Millennium Force
2. Maverick
3. Top Thrill Dragster
