I plan a one-week trip to Cedar Point in May or early June and I will not have a car. Now, I have to decide where I will stay: at the Cedar Point Resort or at one of the Sandusky Hotel which offer a shuttle service to the Point. Can I have your suggestions?
More specifically, I would like to have answers to the following questions:
1) What is the typical schedule of these shuttles? Is shuttle available soon enough to go to the park for the opening, and late enough to leave the park 30 or 60 minutes after the closing hour (that is, to give an opportunity to ride the Millennium a last time before leaving...)?
2) Are these shuttles reliable? Are they at right time?
3) Are some Sandusky hotels offer better shuttle service than others?
Go with an on-Point hotel. Especially if you are staying for a week, you will appreciate the easy access by walking to the park or the beach. You will also have easy walking access to a variety of restaurants, which is also something to think about if you are without a car.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
The first question is "How old are you?" If you are under 21, you won't be able to stay at a CP resort anyway.
If you are, I suggest staying on Point. Especially without a car, as then you aren't tied to anyone else's schedule. I prefer LHP, but that is much better for larger groups (6+). If its just you (or +1) go for Breakers.

The problem with the Sandusky Hotel Shuttles is if you want to get that last ride in you can't. They are not "on call" and I know of people that have been stuck and then you have to get a taxi. My suggestion would be stay onpoint for a few days then go off point... it'll save you some money plus you arent going to want to be at the park from open to close so the shuttle schedule does not matter.
Actually, not staying in the park open to close is one of the best reasons to stay on point. I almost always head back to the cabin at some point for 45 minutes to an hour just to recharge. A little bit of down time without all the hustle and bustle really helps to keep going.

Lighthouse Point, is in my opinion (after visiting the park for 30 years), the BEST way to go.

Lighthouse Point is great, but if someone is like me, who enjoys having a pool and the beach just a few steps away, Breaker's East is the way to go. If you get a suite, you are right next to the pool and you have a gorgeous beach view.

than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
I would stay at the Breakers if you are going by yourself or with someone else. Our First year we did the Shuttle Service from one of the local hotels, we weren't impressed and we were constantly worried about time, and trying to decide if we had enough time to do one last ride on the Magnum!!
Have you thought of Renting a Car? I am sure if you look on the internet you could find a Car Rental place in Sandusky....
Good Luck!!!
Have the time of your life irregardless!! (you Will!)
Cedar Point 4-ever
I think Breakers is the best way to go....Its a bit pricier than the local hotels, but I think the convience is worth it, you get into the park earlier, can go back to your room for lunch, and stay in whatever line you want at close and not worry about missing a shuttle.
Lighthouse Point has it's own pool and the cottages are on the lake. No beach, but they are lakeside. Cabins are a little bit further inland (a few hundred feet), but less windy and easier to grill out, because of this.
Regardless of where OnPoint you stay, stay on the Point.

The cabins have a nice pond in the centre of the pack. CP workers may fown upon it if you swim in there though. :)
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
They also have an outdoor heated pool near the Lighthouse. A game room, too.

Speaking of Lighthouse Point. Has anyone stayed in the cottages for Coastermania in recent years? We've got them booked for this upcoming Coastermania weekend but we're a little nervous of being bombarded by muffleheads again. There were swarms of them inside and out when we stayed in the cottages in '01. How were they last year?
The Amazement Park
01 and 02 the muffleheads were very bad and there seem to be less in recent years. I would suggest staying in one of the ones that are along the water for a few reasons: A little more privacy, nice view of ships/boats coming in, and they are (most of) the original one cabins/cottages and are built a little better. The newer ones were so prefabricated they had huge gaps around the doors & other areas allowing bugs & such in (they may have fixed it though)
Also Off mosquito coils seem to work real well at keeping bugs away (as long as it isnt too windy)
