Shredded "pulley wheel" pieces..?

hello all...

I flew up from tampa this past weekend to go to CP for my 32nd bday on Sunday..yaaa!!!

Watched TTD a while from all different view points...and when we walked down to where the cable goes into the bldg...there was a little kid picking up black plastic pieces.

He proceeds to tell me they are coming off the ride...and all this. I thought the kid was nuts, but stood there to see a train go by right at the bottom of the hill. Lo and behold...they fired it up and pieces of plastic hit the ground right in front of me. Saw the mt. guys changing it a little later...thats gonna get expensive, no?

Great ride..worth every minute of the wait...was great because..even tho the park closed at 8 we got to stay until 10..and i was happy that i got to see the awesome MF lights..

And not to be offensive...but brent haley..you are a cutie!!

I'm guessing that would be from the nylon (I assume they're nylon) cable guides that lead the cables into the building. Because the winding drum is just on the other side of the wall, the cables start at the outside and wind in (or vice versa, I don't remember).

The wheels are all steel as best I can tell.

I think Jeff's right. Although I haven't seen this stuff personally, I know that the Xcelerator launch area was covered with it. Their maintenance said that it was nylon from the launch.

If it's anything like a ski lift, the guide wheels do have some sort of nylon insert. Otherwise there would be a problem with splintering of metal on metal when the cable starts to move. This would also explain the cool sound we hear on launch. That's my thought anyway .... I could be wrong.

Those guide wheels are exactly like ski lift tower guide wheels. The nylon inserts go bad on relatively low speed ski lifts sometimes, so I'm not surprised it shreds on TTD.

Florida may have Disney World and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Not all the wheels are steel, I was watching the Intamin tech replace the wheel that same day.

The nylon I was referring to was the horizontal "sandwich" just outside of the building, between two support legs. I don't recall those turning in any way, so it'd just be cable rubbing on nylon.

I haven't seen them up close, but I suppose nylon inserts on the wheels would make sense. I know the giant pulleys on MF's life system have nylon in the groove.

Hmmm very interesting....

so basically then, TTD is a BIG, fast Sky Ride? LOL
mechanically speaking, anyway...
