Should I go this Sunday?

After all of the issues this weekend and everything, I am contempalting whether I should head to the point or not this Sunday. Sunday is a particular day of interest because Its my only Sunday off work for 3 months(I work Monday-Friday and Sunday, but i refuse to go on Saturday as the crowds are terrible) I read that all the rides were down all day yesterday due to winds, and there have been numerous mechanical issues too. Also, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and winds South West at 14 mph forecasted. Are the major coasters able to run in 14 mph winds? I am just kind of worried, I only can make it twice a year and I want to have a good day and be able to ride a lot. Does the Southwest Wind direction generally affect the park much? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

If you want. I mean the crews should be on par by then, and hopefully the weather is good. Winds are what cloed a lot of rides down this weekend, and of course mechanical issues happen all of the time. I would if I didn't have something to do this sunday.

This should be enough of an answer for you! :) Just go!

When you visit CP, visit my Mill, est. 1835

14 mph winds are not the 45 mph gusts the park had last weekend.

But I'd wait until closer to Sunday and check the forecast then. 7 days out is not a reliable forecast, IMO

BTW, what were these "mechanical issues?" People keep referring to them, but no one seems to specify which rides had mechanical, as opposed to weather, "issues."

I think Skyhawk was down for mechanical. Everything else seemed to be wind-related. I talked to ride ops from GateKeeper and Dragster who specifically cited wind.

Skyhawk is the only large ride I know of that was down all weekend for mechanical problems. Obviously many of the rides had short downtimes for mechanical reasons but I didn't notice anything besides Skyhawk that was down mechanical for an extended period of time.

Oh and I guess Windseeker was "stuck" about 50 feet up the tower for a while Saturday, but does anyone expect any different with that ride?

If the winds are only 14 mph or so, I would think the only coaster that would valley would be Wicked Twister...:)

Yeah, you can count on that ride valleying. I've never been to the park when it hasn't valleyed, luckily it seems like they can get it back to the station without the need to winch it back with a cable. :)

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

My trip is planned for Sunday thru Wednesday at the park. Hopefully the weather will be nice. Like Capt'n said, I'm gonna wait till it's closer until I make a decision.

i mean, Magnum might be effected because the winds are SSW which means they are coming off the lake and not the bay, but Millenium and Maverick and Dragster should be ok.

I was there Sunday. It all seemed weather related to me. I've been going opening weekend since 2000, and while there's always a few issues, last Sunday was a fluke.

I would go next Sunday; Cedar Point has the best uptime of any park in the country. They'll have everything running they possibly can. They always have before.

To being an "us" for once - instead of a "them"

I'm heading out there Sunday as well. In the same boat, Sunday is the best day I have to go this year so if there's an issue, I'm screwed. Hope it's nice and the lines are not too crazy.

Winds are named from the direction they originate, so SSW would be coming from the Bay direction.

Correct me if im wrong but I've always noticed usual wind readings indicate where the wind is coming from, not the direction it is going. So SSW would actually be coming from the bay not the lake.

Mechanical issues as in E-55s, E-127s, and E-143s. As a guest, that is more than what you need to know.

Mechanical reasons can range anywhere from a safety E-stop, to a worn out wheel.

Of course the E stops could be because sensors detect winds outside the specified parameters.

But which rides had E-55s, E-127s, and E-143s? Other than Sky Hawk & Windseeker, no one has identified a ride down for "E-55s, E-127s, [or] E-143s."

I'm going this Sunday and Monday. Really hoping for good weather. Considering we already have the hotel booked and FLP purchased and printed.

Im also going sunday. The past 4 times I've been to the point it has downpoured making them pretty lousy visits, so I am REALLY hoping for good weather..but on the off chance it does rain, its probably my luck's fault, so sorry in advance :)

If we have all these people going on Sunday/Monday we should do a meet up.
