Should CP update some of its stations?

Should CP update some of its stations?

I mean this in that shouold they maybe put some music or something in the Gemini Station, or maybe some lights, or how bout some lights in the Maggie Station. Or i think this would be cool, when they say "See ya back in 2:16, Enjoy your flight on Raaappptor" then there a sound like a wind type thing like a woosshh.... that'd be cool. Guys got anymore ideas?

Make the Magnum station bigger so your not squeezed in like sardines when waiting to board!!!!!

Magnum's station is plenty big, they just let too many people in at one time.  Half the time you can't even tell where the lines are because there are so many people in there.

I wouldn't bother doing anything with Gemini's station.  You aren't in the station long enough.

The only time I think it's worth the money to spend on station lights, music and what not is when people have to wait in the station for 5 minutes or more (like X-Flight at that other park).

This brings up a question that I have been wondering about for quite some time.  Before I went to CP, every coaster station I had been in had had air gates to let passengers in the trains.  Why doesn't CP?  The only stations that I can remember that had air gates were MF, ID, and I think Raptor.  The only reason that I can think of is to increace capacity, but isn't that kinda dangerous?  Maybe I'm just being paranoid, living in sue-happy CA?

I don't think the load gates really make much of a difference as far as safety is concerned. I've never heard or read of a report of someone being hit by a coaster train at CP in all the years I've been going there. I suppose the gates are theoretically safer, but the real world experience seems to show that it doesn't matter.

Unless you start first thing in the morning.

Gates are not necessary to insure safety, they tend to slow loading, and I've seen them injure people far more often than they have prevented injury.

That said, CP now has gates on Mantis:TCFKAB, Woodstock Express, Millennium Force, and Iron Dragon. From what I've heard from non-CP sources, I expect we will see a lot more gates installed in that park in the next two years. :(

Could it be that a state law was passed regarding mandatory opening gates on all new coasters that open? SFWoA and PKI seem to be installing them more as well.

It's just a guess...

New coasters yes.. but the law does not re-quire you to retro-fit you're exsiting rides unless you are rebuilding your station. At which point you need handicapped access (Gemini/Corkscrew/ID) added.

THe amount of modification you do to the station. Now that's a fuzzy area..

Since when is there a law on this?

I agree that they generally slow loading, but then again it depends on how they're used. I've counted 30 seconds of closure after a train arrives at SFWOA's Batman, which is insane. They're used in some places to keep people from boarding until the previous riders are out, and that's just stupid. The very moment the train stops, those gates should be opening.

At PKI, most of them open once the train stops.  Almost like when the lap bars are released, the gates open.  That doesn't seem to slow things down.  Except Face-Off.  That one, like Jeff said, they don't seem to open it until after everyone is unloaded, making a low ride capacity even lower...  As far as the law goes, I don't believe it's required even on new rides.  I'll look through the ORC though just in case.

I like the crowded station on Magnum...you get a quick wait for the ejector seat that way. :)

ORC 1711.50 to 1711.57 cover amusement rides.  Nowhere does it require the gates mentioned above.  Unless you are speaking of something else, Rob, it's not an Ohio law.

"WE RIDE ALL YEAR!"
On the busy days we packed the Magnum station in order to keep the line from spilling onto the midway and avoiding opening the long entrance which is a pain for all involved.  We also packed it on less busy days in order to increase capacity since its usually easier to find single riders with a larger group of people to select from.  Sometimes if you let the station clear out, people don't fill in empty rows and seats go out empty.  Magnum's platfor is actually very BIG.  Off the top of my head, I can't think of a larger one at CP.  I think one thing they could do eould be to more clearly define the rows.  Either by extending the rails back or even painting lines on the floor.

This year and last year, when I went to Cedar Point and it seemed like they were only letting a few people in the station. Kind of like they do with Millennium Force but you were still allowed to pick your seat. They did that on the busy  and not so busy days.

I like the idea of getting Magnum some tight looking lights for its station. Last time I was in Gemini's station, it was kind of cramped, I don't know if thats still true.

You are the Weakest Link, Goodbye.

Anyone notice the Yellow line and railings on CCMR are ever so slowly moving back wards away from the track....  According to the drill  holes from previous positions it looks like they were moved back twice. I find this very peculiar.  I'm sure it has everything to do with safety but it reminds me of a Dilbert comic strip.  Some character said "Let's move Dilbert's cubicle in one inch everyday and see if he notices the tight sqeeze after a few weeks.  :)

Regarding the legal issue...
My understanding is that right now, the Ohio regulations are all based on "manufacturer's specifications" but that beginning in 2003, the requirements will be based on the applicable ASTM standards, and that this will include the standard 42-2-4 fencing on rides. The person I talked to (who happens to be in a very good position to know) indicated that this means entrance and exit gates.
What is not clear to me from that conversation was whether this would require a retrofit of existing installations, and whether that means queue gates would be necessary, or if riders could be considered to be "on the ride" once in the station, meaning the gate could be at the turnstile.
There are some pretty stupid ramifications of this. Did anybody else here get bruised legs when they put the latches on the Cedar Downs exit gates this year?

Sure did.. actually I think we were riding with you and we both did it at the same time..
Shouldn't it actually be called:

Mantis: TCOITBCB

(The Coaster Originally Intended To Be Called Banshee)

since it never actually was presented to the public as the aforementioned name?  :)
