Should CP add a dark ride?

CP should instal a ride like "The Mummy" in Universal. Its an in the dark coaster with AWSOME theming and very good special EFX. They could theme it to snoopy or they could just leave it dark. Either way it would be a new ride for me and a new edition to CP.
I think that it is a good idea to try. But its not really cedar points style

I just took a trip 2 Disney and was @ Islands of Adventure also. Man, a Spiderman like ride @ the Point would be sweet! If anyone hears anything, let everyone know!

~Waiting to ride TTD!~

I would not expect to see a Spiderman type ride anytime soon at the Point. That ride reportedly cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 million- admittedly with advances in technology it could probably be done cheaper now. Regardless, it would be a very large expenditure and there is no way that it would bring in enough people to be worth it. Universal needed such a signature attraction because they have to compete in Orlando. Cedar Point already has a number of signature attractions (TTD, MF, Magnum) and wouldn't gain much from building such a ride.

Besides, what would they theme it to? Snoopy is fine for a little Sally ride but I wouldn't think a Spiderman type ride with Snoopy would be that appealing.

CP&LE, Paddlewheel, and especially DT are shells of their former selves. The theming even in Camp Snoopy (the best kids area) is minimal at best, even compred to your average six flags loony tunes ride grouping, and that's just sad.

Good point. Another example is the removal of the cave from White Water Landing. I know it wasn't a very sound structure in it's final years, but I really miss it.

I always thought Snake River Falls would have been cool mixed in with a dark ride combo. Kind of like a Disney Splash Mountain.

Spiderman was $100 million. Revenge of The Mummy was allegedly arodun $40, to say nothing of the cost of maintaining the ride and its effects. There are few things I'd rule out, but that's one of them.

I definitely think that PKI's Flight of Fear is a perfect idea for which Cedar Point should build a dark ride on. They could gut that ride next to Wicked Twister (I don't remember the name) and use that. It's absolutely perfect.

Is it really beneficial to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on a ride that will only be used about five months out of the year?

On the subject of dark rides, does anyone remeber Nightmare at Boblo Island?
I know i'm going pretty far back with that one, but it was just a in-the-dark coaster, as i remember was pretty fun.
I would be happy as all if CP were to open a indoor coaster, one of course that would blow DT out of the water that is.

Being in the dark on a coaster adds a whole new thrill element to the ride. Even the Aerosmith Rockin' Roller Coaster at MGM Studios was impressive to me.
I'm not saying CP needs a all out theme to it, but I would get some enjoyment out of it.

I believe that it's time for CP to simply add a new coaster instead of always trying to beat records. I love the big coasters but can have just as much fun on the ones that aren't huge. My favorites are Raptor and Gemini. Similar rides would be fantastic. Except, if a new one is wooden, I would hope they try to make it alot smoother than Mean Streak!
Another idea for a dark ride could be something along the lines of The Exterminator at Kennywood. That Cedar Point could kill two birds with one stone. Bring in a crazy mouse coaster and have it as a dark ride. The two crazy mouse coasters that I have been on have been a blast and I came off of both them laughing. With all of twists and turns that are offered by a crazy mouse, being in the dark it is an added thrill The Exterminator @ Kennywood is great. Primeval Whirl down at Disney Animal Kingdom with all the cute theming is a great family ride.

I don't think that a ride like the new Scooby one at King's Island would be very good either. Sure it's one thing to shoot ghosts and gouls, but another to shoot Snoopy and his friends.

Who said they would be locked into shooting Snoopy? Do riders at PKI shoot Scooby? And "shooting" can take on other forms other than "at the bad guy."

They could theme it to shooting down the red barren.

They could theme the cars you sit in like a dog house. I always thought that would be kinda cool.

Just a thought though.

One thing I have noticed with the more current dark rides is that they tend to move a bit faster and spin more. Taking the feel of the classic slow moving dark ride out, and keeping you entertained enough to stay in the car.

I also do not find it very easy to get out of the car due to all its movement.

Cat In The Hat at IOA is a very good ride and a great exampole of a ride that you wouldnt get out of. And it is well illuminated with nowhere really to go which would inhibit anyone from roaming about.

Does anyone know how successful the Scooby ride has been at PKI?

I could see that same concept, except with a Snoopy theme, at Cedar Point.

Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle is hugely poplular at PKI and it's a lot of fun

oh did anyone ride the revenge of mummy at universal in florida...thats a good dark rollercoaster that would be sweet if CP got something like that....or even spiderman at IoA thats another good ride...and that water ride jurassic park thats a cool ride *** Edited 6/10/2004 2:40:17 AM UTC by Kasey***
Universal has gone on record that Spidey cost upwards of 200 million. Note that this was for the original scoops and thus does not include the replacments/mods to the scoops. The cost is commonly held to be around 225 million.

No they haven't! It has been in every other TV show that it was $100 million.
