Shortest lived rides at CP

With all the talk of the Vertigo maybe going the way of the Dodo, I was wondering what is/was the shortest lived ride at Cedar Point?

In 1958, or 1959, they added a suspended monorail where Blue Streak sits. BS was added in 64.

I've seen a picture of that monorail before... Does anyone know how far into the park it travelled, or was it just around the Blue Streak area?
Maybe we could throw Jumbo Jet into the category. ABout the same amount of time as the monorail.

That's what I was thinking...

yeah the jumbo jets were only there a short while....I wonder why?

The Monorail was from '59. It was basically in the Blue Streak area. I saw a picture from a map on virtualmidway.com from 1964.

Fear the Mullet!

Depends on what you classify side of the park. Remember WT is actually on the lake side of the park and its taller.

Somehow I KNEW my comments on my construction pics of VertiGO would come back to haunt me.. ;)

Jumbo Jet was 1972-1978, wasn't it? And I thought the Monorail and Blue Streak might have coexisted, but that may just be my imagination. After all, the Monorail was long gone by the time I went to the park for the first time...!

Never tall enough to ride Jumbo Jet...

Red Garter, are you refering to the fact that during construction, the "fallen" tower which is no more, was the last to be built and in some construction pictures the ride looks exactly like the ride does/did after the tower fell. I can't find a construction picture of that right now.

Dan, well I hope you don't want to consider WT as being on that side of the park, because if you do, then you would have to accept that Magnum was never the tallest ride on that side of the park because of Space Spiral. ;)

I'm pretty sure the monorail and Blue Streak coexisted. I came across an old brochure once that showed both rides.

I think I found that brochure in the Main Library in downtown Columbus.

This 1964 map does show them together.

I think Rob was talking about Maggie being overshadowed by the huge slingshot, but maybe not.

Gemini, looking at that map I'm really concerned that CP had a serious space issue in 1964... Looks like there's no room for anything new.

CP fan since 68.

goes to show what time does to memories!! I could have sworn the monor ail was east of the carousel. I loved that thing--it was like flying!!! I do not see the train around Kiddeeland....was it removed before 64? I also remember going up in the Space Spiral at night, but do not see it either. I didn't get the chance to go much after 64, so I am fairly sure it must have been up before that. I to show I do pay attention to the topic...the stagecoach didn't last all that long either...anyone know for sure?

Actually, they did not co-exist- Monrail-'59-'63; Blue Streak-'64-???. I found it odd that the Blue Streak is is just labeled as "rollercoaster." Maybe that map was printed before the plans for Blue Streak were finalized and CP executives may have thought that the Monorail could stick around for a bit longer if BS plans were not confirmed. That is just a thought, I'm not entirely sure, though.

Dinosaur-

The reason why you did not see the Space Spiral is because it was not installed until '65.
