Look out, we got a conservative trying to make a point over here...
Seriously, though... do we need to bring politics here?

The ADA (like title IX, the voting rights act, etc.) is one of those legislative efforts that was a fantastic and completely necessary initiative at the time, but has since been surpassed by society and now does more harm than good.
The Clarion Inn at the mall is a prime example, as was Disaster Transport's station lift; nothing says 'common sense' like threatening a company with litigation if they don't spend thousands of dollars to install a new way for riders to reach the platform of a ride that is closing in three months.
Girl: "l want to ride that yellow one again... Twisted Wicker"
Me: "It's a roller coaster, not a broken clothes hamper."
Lol yeh snake has filtered water hehe...during my year one weekend at the start of halloweekenes there was a huge rainstorm and the water went from snake over to mavericks pond...let's say lots of dead fishies :-P

The ride was down in the heat of the day Saturday when we were going to ride it. I don't know what the issue was, how long it was down, and if this happens frequently.
I was there at that time as well, wonder if we walked past each other. I left the park after that. Had plans with the gf, plus not fond of saturday crowds.
why did you even go on a Saturday then? :)
Went there for the CP & LP thing going on that day. Figured I hit a few rides since I was there.

Is the bridge at Snake River Falls closed too because an advocate for the disabled could claim that is an experience someone who is disabled cannot have just as the observation deck at Thunder Canyon is. Sensitivity run amok.
Well, if I'm not mistaken, couldn't somebody in a wheelchair be able to go onto the SRF bridge (isn't the entrance to it a ramp?), get soaked, and then come back, cross the boat (if they can get in the boat, they can probably cross, assuming they can get the chair across), and finally exit via the entrance.
Also, why wasn't that an issue years ago? Why is the ADA over 20 years old, but CP only needed the elevators in 2012? Is there some delayed provision, or did CP not follow it immediately? And most importantly, why did they have to close off the deck for several years when they could have quickly fixed it via a ramp?
ADA announced new guidelines for recreation areas like amusement parks, golf courses, and swimming pools in 2010. These went into effect in March of 2012.
I have no idea why Cedar Point went all out with the ADA upgrades and other places haven't. Maybe the state of Ohio enforces these ADA guidelines much more than other states?
Speaking of which. My sister asked & I had no answer to, "Is Sky Ride ADA accessable?"
I'm assuming not.

Sky Ride's entrance ramps are ramps all the way up. Only the exit ramps have stairs.
Edit: Nope, I lied, there's stairs on the entrance, too.

Even if there weren't stairs on the Skyride I think the way the car is kind of wobbly and moving while you're getting in wouldn't be very easy or safe for some disabled people to enter depending on their condition and there's probably not much that can be done about that.
Even if it were a ramp all the way up, that doesn't mean it's ADA accessible. I'm not sure of all the requirements. But, I know there has to be a certain amount of room for turns and there's a max pitch the ramp can be. I'm assuming this is why the Thunder Canyon observation area was closed off in the same year as all the other ADA changes. I haven't noticed if that's still closed off.

The ramp is still closed.
I can't see making the ramp up to code as being that difficult or expensive. I supposed CP views it as an unnecessary expense.
I always like to watch TC from there.
I believe the max pitch is 1/10, and you need a 36" landing for each ramp section. Those requirements could easily make modifications prohibitively expensive or even impossible, considering there's a limited amount of space back there.

Busch Gardens has no trouble loading handicapped people onto their Skyride.
