Shoot-the-Rapids memories

I remember always getting really wet on this ride and its unique double splash finale.

P.S. Do you remember when ride hosts in Frontiertown wore different uniforms than the rides in other areas of the park. I think they were brown and orange intead of the red and blue.

My dad used to work on Shoot-the-Rapids in 1977. He says he really enjoyed working that ride.

Somebody actually LIKED working Shoot the Rapids? As far as Maintenence was concerned it was a nightmare with a mind of it's own. It would do things all by it self and some poor peon would get the blame. We always dreaded when we got a call from there. There were no tears shed when it came down. And yes in the mid 1970's all Frontiertown Hosts wore orange shirts with brown double knit slacks (men) or coolats(sp?) for the women. The CP&LE platform crews (all female at that time) wore a one piece gingham outft.
I believe the ride ops had a nickname for that ride: Shoot the Sh!*.

The thing that was neat about the Shoot the Rapids was if someone bragged about how they didnt get wet....the ride ops would hold the boat until the resulting wave of the next boat came - this would go up over the back of the boat and result in a complete soaking for anyone not already soaked :-)

I dont think I will ever forget that happening to one of our groups.........

Hey be kind Chief Wahoo...We called it Shoot The Sewers:)

Yes I was a member of the Shoot The Rapids crew back in 1980, and we did enjoy working the ride!

I remember working the ride the first few weeks of the season (CP was still opened till 10p.m. EVERY DAY) We would actually have ZERO hours (no riders) from 8p.m. on. And the uniforms, boy were we spiffy;) The shirts looked like something from an Italian Restrauant with a BROWN "yoke" desgin on the top of your back. Over the course of the summer we would get a light suntan through the shirt but the top of your back would stay pure white.

Thanks AGAIN, for making me feel OLD, Tim McKinley, first the Double Ferris Wheel , now this. What's next, The Funhouse?

Small tidbit of CP lore....When you ride White Water Landing, at the small first lift leading into what used to be the cave, the pumps on the right are the main pumps which ran Shoot The Rapids which everyone at the time thought were so big.

Well, time for my afternoon nap, you know us old folk;)

See you on the Midway

OTT

i remember that shoot the rapids really had no queue. the line would extend thru frontiertown sometimes.
Not to mention Tim that when you come around from where the "cave" ended, if you look to the left there are several footers left from the old ride..

Now.. the funhouse.. the crooked room handrail queue/maze was always fun but the enclosed slides at the end were always the best.

Do I remember correctly that there was actually an exit for people who didn't want to go down the slides?

That is correct Rob, you could wait for the slides or go through a door and take the steps.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
