Severe Weather?

dsloban's avatar

I know I was up at the point yesterday and they seemed to be ahead of the weather. They closed the Maverick about 5 minutes before the rain hit. We were the last ride on the Main Streak before the skies really opened up! After a few hours, the weather really cleared up nice up there! The strange part was that while most of the coasters were down during the rains, the Mantis was still going! Even in the heavier rain! Is that normal for that ride to be open during the heavier rain?

Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs

I do know that the title of the post says Sever! I noticed this right after posting! The problem is I do not know how to edit the title!

You can't. Unfortunately a lot of people here have nothing better to do then belittle you over a typo :)

Ben, you neglected a period at the end of your last sentence. ;)

I got a story for you,
it was 2 years ago, Maverick Opened and do you all remember the
MAX Plus Pass?
It was my First trip down to the point for the season so it was late May or early June, I had taken my girl friend down for her first trip as well. I processed my pass and all that fun stuff. We entered the park and so on.
It was around 3:30pm when we noticed that the clouds were getting really dark.At about 3:35pm we were in line for Magnum and it started pouring.
All the rides closed because of the rain. So we found cover under a little shop near Dragster.
Let me tell you it poured for about 30 min. So we decided to give up and just head out to the car to eat lunch. We were right behind Dragster off the Gemini midway, when lightning struck the top of dragster.
It was the scariest moment in my life. The hair on my arms and legs stood up on end. You could feel the electricity! I will never forget that.

PS: my grammer sucks!

Ben, cut Vince some slack. He can finally put an R-E at the end of a word AND be spelling it correctly.

Man oh man. The first time I decide to make a spelling correction I attract all of this heat. I'll go back to not saying anything.

One day a couple of years ago I was at the park and we could see the sky was very dark to the west so we decided it was time to head home before we got soaked. Driving west on the Turnpike the whole sky was being lit up with lightning. Finally it started to rain and the wind picked up and was blowing the rain right at the windshield. I couldn't see the road in front of me. I hate pulling over on the side of the road and being a sitting duck during bad weather but I had to. After a couple of minutes the skies cleared and we carred on our way home.

Rain-X :) You'd be amazed at how well it works when you regularly apply it to your windshield.

Just get the Rain-X wipers and you wont have to worry about spraying the windshield. So far, they have been the best wipers I have ever spent money on.

I have been to KI in 2001 in a huge T-storm, and have rode SOB in the rain! It didn't hurt for some reason, but like a shower experience. It was a similar story to pointperson's KI story, we all ran inside a gift shop on international street, and I still remember that leaky gutter hanging off the roof as people ran under it to take a shower! No tornado warnings though.

I have also been at CP during a bad storm back in 06 when the sky was green and the lightning streaks flashed every 5 seconds!

I've got the Rain-X Wipers (get a new pair 1-2 times a year) and still spray my windshield regularly. It makes a difference in a huge storm. I can still drive posted speeds while everyone else slows down to ridiculous speeds.

I have Rain-X wipers now but I'm not sure if I did then. They sure are awesome. But with the way the wind was blowing the rain around at the car and across the road I'm not sure that they would have made a difference. I found that when I had the Rain-X spray on my windshield that it would make it cloudy at times and I would have a hard time seeing.

For the record, I wasn't correcting your spelling pointperson. You said earlier in the thread that you noticed your mistake but couldn't change it. I was correcting the people after you who continued to spell it wrong.
