Seperate Admission

What is the reason behind the Soak City seperate admission fee? How about Challenge Park. I mean, yes you get a lot for 39 dollars, but why not at least include Soak City? This came to me after reading Jeff's post on Six Flags.
I'm only speculating... I'd guess they see it as an opportunity to generate additional revenue. Guests at the hotels, who might not want to buy tickets for two whole days in Cedar Point, may be agreeable to buying tickets for a seperate attraction-- Soak City -- as part of their vacation.

Yes, I think that their decision is based on profit, and to be honest, I like it the way that it is set up.

Usually, when my family goes to Cedar Point (except for last year when we went in the fall) we stay at Camper Village. We buy one ticket for Cedar Point. Then we buy one ticket the next day for Soak City. It is cheaper to do this than it is to buy two tickets for Cedar Point or a two day ticket. I think that it is nice to be able to go to Soak City without paying for the entire amusement park.

In addition, I think that having seperate prices adds more to the resort feel of Cedar Point. And Cedar Point has enough rides and attractions to fill up a whole day. I can't see visiting Cedar Point for one day and having time to visit the water park too.

Be thankful, many parks put their Challenge Park type rides inside the park itself. That way, you have to pay to get into the park and then pay more to go on a Ripcord type attraction or go-karts. At least with this set up, resort guests (or anyone else) can run over and ride the go-karts without paying the entire park entrance fee.

It's a resort atmosphere. You go to CP one day and Soak City the next. There's no way I can fully experience both in one day.

Example, when I went to PKI this summer, we hung out at their waterpark for about four hours. By the time I changed, had dinner, I only went on half the rides I wanted to. So for PKI, you should buy a two day pass to fully enjoy it. CP is even bigger. So seperate admissions make sense to me.

Also, I could only imagine the lines at Soak City if everyone could get in with CP admission.

I could only imagine the lines in CP if Soak City was included with admission.

I think it's more about admission costs for the consumer.

If they added Soak City to the general admission, they would undoubtably raise the price at least $10.

I think a lot more people would stay in the coaster section even if they could go to the water park. And to pay more for it doesn't sound very cool.
I believe that earlier this year there was an article about this in the Sandusky Register. I think a reporter had caught on to a "rumor" from Thrillride.com about combining Soak City admission with Cedar Point. This reporter called CP and was told they don't comment on rumors or speculation, but this situation was unlikely. It quoted someone (maybe even Dick Kinzel) as saying that Soak City was originally intended just for the resort and campground guests, but it became increasingly popular with locals and day guests. For that reason, they expect to always keep it a separate admission.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that at least for the first year of operation, admission to Cedar Point was required before you could be admitted to Soak City (still at additional cost).
For the first year Soak City could only be visited if you had admission to Cedar Point or you were staying at the resorts. So you are mostly right.

I went to Soak City last year 30+ times. The place is packed on a hot summer day, and I couldn't imagine the Breakers Bay wave pool with anymore people in it. Obviously, people pay money to go to Soak City, and if it isn't broken, why fix it. I'd like to see a Master Blaster there. It'd be a perfect fit for 2002.
I like the way C.P. does it. PKI includes the waterpark with a general admission ticket. The only problem that I have with the way PKI does it is that their waterpark is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. But the price of their tickets does not change. So if you go in April, May, September or October, you're still paying for a waterpark that's closed. (Not that you would want to visit a waterpark in those month's anyway.)
Some people, usually locals, will go only to Soak City on occasion.
