Seeking off-property places to stay?

With the number of trips to CP I'll be making this year (first time for season passes - yeay!), staying on-property every time probably isn't going to happen. I'm wondering if there are any decent, non-bug-infested, well-maintained, moderately-priced hotels where you've had good experiences.

One place I'm curious about is the Sundown Motel - on Venice Rd., west of CP. Has anyone stayed there?

I've never stayed off-point, but I know that there is a Best Western on Cleveland Rd, right before the causeway. Also, I hear that the Great Bear Lodge has a great view of Cedar Point from the top floor (oh yeah, and some slides!)

That Best Western is a real nice place to stay. I'm staying there on the 19th the night before I process in for work at CP. Only thing is the price is a little steep for me at least. Expect to shell out $100+ there. Great Bear is awesome! But can be REALLY expensive pending room type and time of year. Hope it helps.

See, and this is why Breakers Express is ideal. If you research hotels around Sandusky, say Clarion Inn, Sleep Inn, etc, you will find that their rates are right around the $100 range. For that money, you might as well stay at B.E., which is the same price, and some times during the season even cheaper. Plus, then you can get in to the park early. Just my .02. Other than that, the Sleep Inn by Applebee's is very nice, but once again, like $99 a night.
Go to Priceline.com!
I recently stayed at the Clarion located adjacent to the mall. I got a room through Orbitz for $39/night - including a Friday night. The hotel looked scary from the outside, but the rooms were very clean, and looked to be recently remodeled.

For the same 3 night stay a Breakers Express, it would have cost me about $100 more, so I went with the Clarion and purchased the Joe Cool Club option for my pass to take part inthe morning ERT. Of course, I was on a budget. If money was no problem, I would have most likely went for a Lighthouse Point cabin.

I stayed at a Holiday Express in Port Clinton last year for $54 a night. Looks like they might be a little higher now but it was a decent place to stay.
I stayed at the ramada for $123 for 2 nights wasn't too bad and the rooms were clean and the doors lock, unline the Days Inn off of the 250! don't go there!

I've stayed at the Hampton Inn, Comfort Inns (there are three locally), Ramada, and Breakers Express off point. Prices vary, but many are between $79-$109 during high season.

Lately, we've been staying at the Red Roof Inn between Sandusky and Norwalk (south of the turnpike). It's a little bit of a drive, but the hotel is very clean, has a pool, is cheaper being that it's further from CP, and honestly only a 10-15 minute drive from the park.

Weve stayed at the clarion inn, great bear lodge, raddison harbour,
I went to CP for the first time on early May (9-11). I stayed at the Best Western in Norwalk which is about 20 minutes or less from CP. I don't know how their rates will change during the high season, but one thing that got us interested on that property is that Norwalk's city tax was 6.5%, versus Sandusky's 11.0%. It may make no difference for two or three stays during the season, but if you plan to go more often, the tax paid will add up eventually.
Just think that 11% is $10+ on a $100 hotel room! That's crazy. 4.5% Down here in Virginia is where it's at my friends!

I'll be staying in Rodeway inn on cleveland Rd...Anybody know how that is like. I stayed in rodeway inn's before...never have any problems. Anyway, Its $59 a night plus tax which ends up to be $66 a night which is pretty good.

Except that the drive from Virginia to Cedar Point is hell.

I stayed at the Value Inn a few weekends ago. It is old but it was clean. 40 dollars a nite! It seemed to be a half mile from the chauseway and it has a deli/party store next door. It was not bad.
I'll be staying in the Sea Crest motel. Only $40 a nite even on weekends. It's on Columbus and the pictures I've seen look decent. Can't beat a price like that.

You get what you pay for....I was complaining in another post how dirty the Tudor Inn was. I guess the live cockroach I found did not mind. Fortunately my girlfreind never saw him.

The new ComfortSuites is very nice. Well priced for what you get too.
