Seatbelts of rides

When a friend of mine and I were riding Calyspo at Calyspo Bash, my friend was pulling the seatbelt tighter, and the 2 pieces that fit together broke so you couldn't keep them together. Thank goodness the seatbelt isn't a vital piece of equipment to keep you safely inside.

Anything like this ever happen to anybody else?

Calypso has seatbelts now too? Yikes, what is the world coming to...

I think you could stand up on that ride and not fall, it is still a tight ride though

Number 1 And Only Cedar Point.
Calypso has had seat belts for years. It's the Scrambler that just got them this season. Of course, Cedar Point has clearly become so enamoured with seat belts that I wonder how long it will be before they start appearing on the benches.......

I noted a sign at the end of the ride on both Shivering Timbers, and Wolverine Wildcat, at Michigan's Adventure, notifying riders how anyone found to have unbuckled his seatbelt during the ride would be ejected from the park. I don't know if this is a state law, or a park rule. (Even with the belts, Shivering Timbers is heavy to airtime---and I mean the kind that makes you feel like you'll soon be looking at the shoes of the rider in front of you.)

What is this park coming to? I mean, ever notice all the new problems? Beverage prices. Safty. Landscaping.
Hey Dave, I think we'll really have to worry when they begin appearing on the toilets. ;)

That's actually not a bad idea, certainly makes more scents to be belted to the toilet then to a bench :)

I'm actually a little surprised that they haven't appeared on the train. I've seen little kids really lean over to get a good look at Boneville, just a little jolt and out they go. Not to mention the complete lack of belts on the rent-a-strollers, at least on the double version we got for my nephews, they were always trying to climb out.
Joe, please don't give them such ideas! If the railroad cars have seat belts next year, we'll all come after you with extreme prejudice... :)

Actually, something I have seen on a train...Oaks Park in Portland, Oregon has a Chance CP Huntington train. They've put little hinged doors on the side of the train to discourage kids from climbing out. Cedar Point merely recommends that small children sit to the inside (where they can't see anything) but then, those coaches are large enough that inside seats actually do exist.

Because the spacing between benches on the CP & LE coaches is consistent, it wouldn't be too terribly difficult to come up with a sliding door arrangement, something like the doors on a Huss Ranger. But knowing the way CP does things, I doubt we will see that happen unless there is a terrible accident on the train. I mean, after all, to the best of my knowledge they haven't lost any kids yet.....!

It may sound mean but whenever I take somebody to the park for the first time I insist that we ride the Witches Wheel and Matterhorn. You should see the looks on their faces as they fumble to find a seat belt. Of course we all did that the first time we rode those things. :)

Remember, line jumping is NOT a sporting event!
What is the problem that you refer to as "safty"?

A bad day at CP is better than a good day at work.
The Calypso HAS NOT had seat belts for years....I don't know about this year.. don't get over to that area too often and haven't been up on the platform this year.. but it did not have seat belts last year.
I know Calypso did not have seatbelts in '97 - my husband worked it that year, and he said definately not! (Though there were many times when he wished it did!) I think it's a good idea that they added them, though, because so many people want to get out of rides like that before they're completely stopped -- as if a seatbelt is going to help all that much.

When your as fat as I am, you need the seatbelts!!!! The stupid bar only goes over my knees, if I didn't have the seatbelt on Magnum I would have fallen out, same thing goes for MF. I had to literally squezz my ass_into Mean Streak, and for how rough Mean Streak is, you could only imagine the pain I went through. *** This post was edited by gio367 on 10/14/2000. ***
