Say a Little Prayer

Saw this on my local news website. Just thought we could all offer up some prayers to their family....

I've been praying extra hard this past week due to a sudden death in my family, so I will keep these people included in my thoughts.

Very sad to hear that there road trip to Cedar Point was cut short. Maybe one of them couldn't wait to ride Blue Streak, or couldn't wait to ride Raptor. Or they just couldn't wait to there fav ride. We may never know.

What the hell? How does a guy driving a truck plow it over someone else's car? I sure hope he's charged with something.

I feel very sorry for those people...man, that's really got to suck...I will remember to keep those poor people in my prayers...Gosh, I can almost here the wrecking going on...it sounds just terrible...God bless that family, I hope the ones that died went to a better place...I will keep that family in my prayers.

Yeah, I have no clue how that guy(the truck driver) would get away with what he did. I mean I'm sure he didn't mean to drive up onto the car and kill them, but he must have not been paying attention or something, it's like he'd have to not know what's going on. I pray to God the family and the family member's get along alright.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

Remember earilier this year when that one family was killed by a semi on route 2. Same situation. It's awful it had to happen again.

Semi trucks are just too dangerous. It's times like these that make you wonder if they should have their own lane on the road.

If I was there I would have got the LP number and gave the trucks comany a call and tell them how that driver was driving.
Ha, That was good. But, I think they would've found out.

since Micro Pro closed down, I am now driving semi trucks. I am not saying the car was at fault in this situation, as I was not there, but take it from me, You would not beleive how many cars HAVE to get in front of the truck. It happens multiple times per day, going down the highway, as soon as my turn signal goes on, people from behind me get in to the lane I am going to, just so they dont have to be behind me. Same thing rounding a corner. Unlike a car, a truck needs 2 or even three lanes to make a turn depending on the situation. You would not beleive how many people will turn right at the same time we do, not allowing us to make the wide turn, and risk being rear-ended when we have to hit the brakes. It mentioned he was hauling HazMat. As you probably can figure out, you have to be much more careful with a HazMat load, and the driver needs an endorsement on his liscense. This also requires extra training every couple of years. Before I started driving, I would also automatically assume the driver is at fault. After driving a short time, you see how idiotic people can be on the road. A friend was charged a few years back with an accident. He was slowing down as there was a traffic backup ahead. Several other cars just HAD to cut in front of him. All they were going to do, was sit and wait anyhow, but the HAD to get in front of the truck. The final one cut over, and didnt have enough room to make it, thus causing an accident. She (yes, it was a woman driver) asked the truck driver why with all of those wheels he didnt stop faster. These things do not stop on a dime. At 55 mph, it will take the truck six seconds to stop, and require just short of 300 yards (the distance of a football field). That is on dry pavement!!!! add a LOT more than that in snow and rain. When you are fully loaded (80,000 pounds) that is a lot of weight to stop. Trust me, before I started driving, I took a lot for granted. I thought truck drivers were all backwards azz hillbillys that didnt know if they were coming or going. That is not the case. Backing a rig takes practice, it is not like backing a car. You have to remember, there are two many variables that we do not have the answer too. I trully feel bad that the accident happened, (as with the one in Toledo earlier this year). Both families are in our prayers. However, the trucks in either accident may not be the ones at fault. I dont know, I was not at either accident. The drivers may have been able to avoid it, but maybe not. Anything is possible. I know for sure, both drivers were tested for drugs and alcohol by DOT, and will never drive again if either showed posative. Both drivers could have been running over there log books as well. I am not saying the drivers were not at fault, but to automatically assume it was the drivers fault, when there are so many nut cases in four wheelers out there, anything is possible. When you are approaching a traffic slowdown on the highway, and you need to get over as your lane is comming to an end, or quickly becoming an exit ramp, and you see a truck comming in the lane you are trying to get in to, what do you do? You jump in front of the truck. I am guilty of it myself (when I am in the car). Turn on your turn signal, and look for the truck to flash his lights to tell you to go. 99% of the time, he will do that providing it is safe. he is sitting way higher than you are, and can see much more of what is going on. If someone is riding his tail, and a slowdown will cause an accident, yes, he might not let you over, but atleast turn your turn signal on, to signal your intention. While there are a few bad truck drivers out there, most of them are good people, and have families at home, and want to get back to see them. They realize your safety is just as important as theirs.

I do have one other peeve. When you are stopped at a light, please make sure you are COMPLETELE BEHIND the white line painted on the ground. If you are, and we make a turn, we have plenty of room to make the turn. If you are over it, we do not. If this happens, and we get stuck in the intersection, and you refuse to back up (this does happen) all we can do is sit there. When/If a cop drives by, and see's what happened, who do you think gets the ticket? It is not the truck driver. Someone mentioned earlier that semis are too dangerous. This is not the case at all. I had to go through 244 hours of safety training. Most professional drivers are exactly that, professional. But when you get people not paying attention, and talking on the phone, reading the newspaper, putting on make-up, fussing with there kids, and in general not paying attention, an accident is not far behind. Add drugs or alcohol to the mix, and that really makes problems.

I am not saying all truckers are angels. some speed, some violate log books (run more hours in a day than allowed), some are reckless, some even do drus and alcohol. But the laws on us are very strict. Just like most professions, 99% of truck drivers are safe and curtious drivers. but like a corupt cop, or a greedy investor, there are a small handfull hat do not obey the laws. Once again, I feel terrible at the loss of lives at both crashes. But please, we do not know all that was involved. Please do not pass judgement on the truck driver before we know all the details.

Interesting perspective.
Yeah, I never looked at it being like that. I guess it'd be hard to get out of the way of cars and different stuff like that. I've never drove one of those things, so I can't say much about it.
