Sandusky Hotels

I am planning a trip to Cedar Point with my fiance'. We will be going to the park on Friday, 6-22 and Saturday, 6-23. We are planning on staying two nights (Friday and Saturday) at an area hotel.

I'm considering staying at Breakers Express. The rooms there are going for $120 per night. I'm open to the idea of spending that, but would be interested in a saving a little money and possibly staying at a near by hotel. We will need a room for two people.

Does anyone have ideas of hotels within a few miles of the park that are nice and might be less expensive than Breakers Express? I would appreciate any help that you can give me on this. Thank you.

If you're looking for the cheapest Cedar Point hotel, I believe you've found it. If you want to splurge, Lighthouse Point is your best choice. If you're looking for a cheap but decent hotel in town I would say the Super 8 Sandusky North. I stayed there last October for less than $60/night and it was clean and had a decent contenential breakfast.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

If you really want to save some money on a hotel. Try using a travel agent. Many travel agents (which I am by the way) use consolidators who have negotiated ridiculously low rates on hotels. If you want, private message me, and I will give you my email and help you out.

Look at the Microtel in huron, it is located about 20 min. west of the park. It is located right where RT. 6 & 2 meet west of the park.

The cool thing about that hotel is that the pool is open 24 hrs.

Always look into the Maples Motel. It's between the Chausee and the Causeway. The rooms are always very clean, and while not the nicest accommodations, they are adequate. The rates are very reasonable, and the owner of the hotel is very friendly.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I called and left a message with the Maples Motel. It sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. I read the reviews and the only down side that I can see is the near by train tracks. I remember camping near those train tracks one time and hearing the loud train. It was a long time ago and I don't remember them keeping me awake all night or anything but the trains were loud and frequent. I'll have to ask Jennifer what she thinks about that.

Buy a camper and stay out in town at Bayshore Estates.

The average price for a site is $34.95 a night at the time you're planning on going, and that includes a full hookup(electric, water, sewer and cable). If anyone is planning a trip to stay here, look at their website and make sure you pick a site as far back in the park as possible. The trains are hardly noticeable back there.

Comparatively, Camper Village wants, for the same two nights, $60 a night and that only includes electric.

If you want to compare apples to apples, for just an electric site at Bayshore for the same two nights is only $23.95.

I'm sorry but early entry to the park and not having to drive 5 minutes doesn't make up for costing more than twice as much. Get a Joe Cool pass and drive the 5 minutes.

Sorry MrScott.

Edit: I forgot to mention that you can't build a fire in Camper Village and their lots are 1/2 the size of Bayshore's.

Ride on, MrScott!

The train tracks by the Maples are the worst part of the hotel. However, the owner will give you earplugs if you think it'll bother you that much. Personally, I slept right through the trains passing by. All you have to do to not hear the trains is spend a very full day at the park, and you'll be so tired, you'll never hear the trains. :)

Yeah Loopy, I'm pretty sure that Bayshore Estates is where I camped that time. It was nice (although I love Camper Village because of my long history of camping there with my family.) It's great to wake up right next to everything and somehow adds to the excitement of the trip. It also is nice to be able to walk back to your camp site during the day if you want to.

I considered borrowing my parent's moter home and camping, but the extra cost in gas would have made camping at Camper Village about the same price as staying at Breakers Express. I imagine the comparison between Bayshore Estates and Maple Motel would be about the same also.

With only two people going, staying for two nights, and a round trip drive of about 400 miles, the extra gas spent makes up for the less expensive lodging.

Jeff, you hit the nail on the head of why I don't think that the trains will be a problem. We will be leaving early from the Flint, Michigan area on Friday. Spending the day in the park and then going to the hotel that night. Saturday, we will spend another day at the park and spend another night at the hotel. I think that we will be plenty tired.

MrLoopy,

You CAN build a fire in Camper Village or Lighthouse Point.

It just can't be a ground fire. I always build one on the grill. :)

If electricity doesn't matter to you, and you're a AAA member, you can camp at bayshore for like $16 or $17 a night. Definitely budget CP Lodging

I did some searching on all the popular travel sites and found many two star hotels within 1-5 miles of Cedar Point for around $80 - $100 a night.

Do some more shopping, you will probably find a better deal if you don't mind driving a bit more.

You'd be surprised as to how often that room is booked. Outrageously priced, yeah. But it is a nice room with a great view.

I highly recommend Maples Motel as well. We stayed their last year in August, and the price and service was unbeatable.

Natas, I sent you a PM with more ravings about the place.

Here are some pics I took while there last year:

Laura, I'm pretty sold on staying at the Maples. I just need to find out if they will allow 18 year olds to. If you wouldn't mind sending me a PM with any more information I'd appreciate that. Thanks.
