Sandusky City Hall

In the past, Cedar Point has pulled permits at City Hall for construction and reports have come out through the papers. Has anyone looked into this yet and, if so, what were the results?
For those of you who do not know when the park first submits plans to the city all they have to submit in the first phase is plans for the foundations and footers, they don't need to give the city any information on heights or speed.

When the Sandusky Register first talked about #15 they had no clue what it was, just basically how big the area of construction was going to be.

If I'm not mistaken it was either last year or two years ago the park got approval to raise their height limits, which goes hand and hand with the rumors of how tall #16 is going to be. I think that the biggest concern is that the airport is so close to the park.

I didn't think CP had a heightlimit... basically they just had to submit to Sandusky how high it would be if it were over the tallest ride at the Point already. (correct me if I'm wrong)

The airport is fairly close but I don't think any of the approaches take planes over the Peninsula.
Cedar Point doesn't have a height limit, they just get a building permit from the city, I think thats how it goes. Might want to double check on that. Anyways, about the airport, I am sure the planes try to steer clear of the park.

C'mon guys - it doesn't take a plane all that long to get up 300 or 400 feet. The airport isn't THAT close to the park either. CP will have to go ALOT higher before the airport is a consideration I think.

Everything that goes up in the air taller than current structures has to have clearance from the FAA. Which generally is not difficult to get in Cedar Point's position.
I think the bigger concern is safety. What are the evac procedures on Xcelerator if the coaster were to stop on the top of the Top Hat?

How would you get people down from the top of a 400+ foot Top Hat? Don't say it can't happen. I've seen coaster stuck in the top of a corkscrew when a wheel or axel broke.

Parachutes in the seat backs, what else? And in the case of an emergency, your seat cushion also serves as a floatation device. But seriously, that top hat would need maintenance so wouldn't it just have an accessway for maintenance guys? Doesn't MF? Same deal, just another 100 feet of ladder.

The chances of a train ever being stuck on the top hat in all its years of operation are about zero to none. Gravity, you know?

From the pictures I have seen, there is no "ladder" on Xcelerator. I agree, Jeff, that the likelihood is slim but I don't think anyone ever thought a coaster train would get stuck in the middle of a corkscrew and I remember seeing that happen a few years back.

If there were come type of malfunction with a wheel assembly there is a remote chance a train could get stopped up on top. What in the world would they do?

Evacuation by helicopter, or a 400+ foot crane. Nothing is impossible.
What would they do if a Mantis train got stuck in the top of the loop? Or Raptor? I don't think this is a malfunction that's really accounted for when the design is created. In an emergency like that, firetrucks, or something else like that - im sure they can find some way to get the trains down with conventional methods that don't need to be incorporated into the design

There is a big difference in height between the top of the Raptor or Mantis loop and the top of a 400+ foot Top Hat. I can guarantee you that the City of Sandusky does not own a piece of rescue equipment that could reach 400 feet.

Have you ever seen how long it takes to erect those big cranes? Erect them; heck....just to get one onto the Point would be a task that would take all day.

I would just send a couple of the employees up there and push the train over the top hat ;)

Has anyone seen the giant coal elevator on the other side of Sandusky Bay? It's not small by any means and I imagine that they have some sort of machine that can take them to the top if it ever malfunctions...maybe Sandusky could use whatever they use. Not that the coal elevator is 400 feet but, you never know, it could help in a pinch.
And I've been reading up on new and old ride accidents and one of the most common form of evacuation seems to be fire truck ladders, a close second would be the rides actual steps, if the car gets stopped at the top or on the way to the top of the hill. This is according to the literature i've read, which obviously isn't the only info...just the only info i have access to...

I would tell everybody in the train to move and shake the train til it comes down ;)

I'm sure if you got everyone to do the tootsie roll the train would come down...

All they would do is just use a hitch to pull it back to the station. Not too difficult if you ask me.
MiLLeNNiuMRiDeR, so basically your going to blast the hokee poee music and tell the people to join in lol. I could see kids in Camp Spoopy hearing the song and all of a sudden start to dance.
