Safety System On The Top Hat

Considering the top-hat will be right side up an photos have proved that walkways will be put along the side of it do think the very top of the top-hat could act as a safety station, like raptor, mantis, mean streak..... Could some type of safety system be in the future for the top rails of the top-hat, or is it just free sailing over the top, hope nothing gets in the way on the way down. I mean when the ride launches the track can be clear but by the time it goes up and down who knows what could happen. I can see it now some idiot protesting the rides us of extreme amounts of energy jumping in frony of it. Just like the stupid protest that went on yesterday, "What would Jesus drive?" Give me a break. Still what exactly are the walkways for way up there, who in there right mind would want to stand up there?

First of all, the brake track is too high for anyone to just jump on the track. Secondly, the tophat is just track, it's not part of the block system. Finaly, If someone is stupid enough to jump on the track while the train is moving, they deserve to die anyways.

Believe me the person is out there! If u wanted to get on the track u still could, even though it is high, people are stupid, i'm surprized it hasn't happened on other rides at the point (to my knowledge!) Some of the older stations at the park are unsafe! I was just wondering if the ride will have some type of laser based safety system similar to the one used on the wicked twister!

People on this site are to harsh and need to calm down! Everybody acts like they know everything when they actually know almost nothing at all!!!!

I think we might see some sort of an anti rollback. From the sounds of it people on Xcelerator freek when the train doesn't make it over the top. Can you imagine what it would be like at whatever height this wil be? This could also explain the elevator etc ...... Just a thought
I hope I'm on it when it doesn't make it over the top. That would be a ride in itself.

You are so very, very wrong to say something like that....but I gotta admit I wanna be on that train too.

I think it would be almost impossible to have a block brake at the top of the tophat for two reasons. First they would most likely have to be friction brakes which require compressed air and I think it would be rather hard to get that up there, and second, say the ride would set up, people would be stopped up there. People FLIP out when they are stopped anywhere on a coaster, I could only imagine how it would be 400some feet in the air.

I would enjoy being stopped at the top! Just listening to people flip out about it would be graet. I know what your talking about, got stuck at the safety station on the mean streak once and people flip! They sent a ride host all the way out there to talk to everybody, telling us they would have the problem fixed shortly. What seemed like hours later we finished the second half of the ride!!

Joe I think this is a very valid observation about the safety system at the top. I raised this question in another thread but the subject kind of went another direction (almost like where this one is going). Are there going to be anti-rollbacks at the top of the tophat? From the looks of the track it doesn't look like there is. So how could the train stop up there to necessitate the need for a walkway?

The walkway does exist that is a fact. U can see photos of it here http://www.cpthrillology.com/images/1019stairsfortop.jpg

Odds are it does exist just for maintence reasons, but it would be cool if there was a possibility of being stopped at the top! I would love it! It wouldn't take much to stop the train at the top because it wouldn't have much momentum and obviously it could still finish the circut because all it would have to do is fall down the down side from there. I think it would make the ride better. A nice stall out at the top.

Actually the track does look like there will be something added. Check out the goove on the running side.

Everybody loook at the link above that Jamesb posted he has a very valid point, look at that grove, what is that for, braking system? Maybe all of u people who have been trashing me are wrong again, what a surprize! Any explinations on this. Jamesb Very great observation, i never noticed that grove before. Odds are something is getting attached there!

Hey you're right! I never noticed those grooves. Are those standard Intamin anti-rollback grooves on every Intamin?

I notice that Goliath has these indents but there is nothing in them:

Superman: Ride of Steel at SFNE meanwhile doesn't have those indents:

Nice photos! Good idea doing a little research!

Those groves are on many coasters, heck there even on Millennium Force and Wicked Twister in certain spots. I can't exactly remember what they're for but it's nothing to get excited about.

I suspect that those grooves are from the result of whatever machine Intamin uses to bend its track. That truss-like track is incredibly strong, and it would take a lot of force to bend it to the specifications needed. You really only see these grooves over hills that have a relatively small radius.

Launch: Tophat: Twistage: Brakes...

...Denial is an ugly thing.

There won't be brakes, block brakes, or anti rollbacks on the top hat. Why? Because there is absolutely no need for them. Rollbacks are covered by the brake fins that go up on the launch run right after a train is launched. If the train doesn't make it over the top hat, it rolls back, hits the brakes on the launch run, and slowly moves back into the station. If there were anti rollbacks or brakes on the top hat, it would make it sooo much harder when a train doesn't make it over the top hat (because of obvious reasons... compare the long, hard, and costly process of getting the train around MF's circuit when it was stopped on the lift after the cable broke with simply waiting a short time for #16's train to return to the station). If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
