Safety Issues

Hello fellow CP fans. I'm new to the forum but have been reading your postings for quite some time. Thanks for the entertainment and information. OH...And I promise I will read the other topics before writing, unlike other newbies. I have a question... At what point does safety become an issue? I'm a huge Mega and Giga supporter, but 125 MPH? From a structural standpoint as well as a environmental standpoint, eventually safety has to become an issue. I'm not as much concerned with the structural issue as I'm sure Intamin has perfected and computer tested its design. But come on... If a mayfly hits you in the eye at 125 MPH, you could need medical assistance. I guess the question is - will the ride have a windshield for protection? Or will they make riders wear safety glasses? I would not mind glasses but a windshield might take away from the full effect of the ride experience. Thanks in advance for the opportunity to post. Appreciate your response.

I''ll go with what I've heard Rideman say in the past and say it's just not smart to *not* wear any sort of glasses on a ride. Even perscription eyeglasses provide more protection than nothing.

I was young once...

I always wear sunglasses on MF because of the bug issue.

This was brought up somewhere before. Apparently the air being displaced by traveling 125 miles an hour is enough to displace any small insects which may be flying around.

I think that is how it was explained

I fool so feelish...

i do not know this for sure at all. but my uncle, who is an architecht and a civil engineer said that when they build roller coasters they put special devices in the front of the first car that emits a very high pitched noise and actually repels insects. Personally i think hes full of crap. has anyone else heard of this? personally, i doubt they do that cuz of the bugs on MF. all i hvae to say is if you are hungry and low on cash, ride MF with ur mouth open....
All you have to do is look at the front of the front car of a coaster at night and see all the bugs plastered to it. I rode the Millennium Force in the rain before...OUCH! I'd just wear sunglasses, or get a pair of clear non-prescription glasses. It's better than keeping your hands in front of your face as a shield, and blocking out the entire ride.
If I got hit with a bug at 100 on my motorcycle, then it CAN happen on the new ride.
That's funny you should mention MF. This summer while I was there, we decided to make MF our last ride of the day. The sun was setting on the horizon as we boarded the train. These two young girls, very appealing to the eye, decided to take the front car. They were wearing low cut shirts with a bit of cleavage exposed. When the ride was over, they stood up and turned around. It looked like someone had grinded fresh pepper on their chests and face. All I could was laugh. They must have learned a valuable lesson that day.

Well to anyone who wears persciption glasses I have a solution. What I have done for the last two years was, go to "Erie Islands/Comodore Perry Travel Plaza and pick up a pair of "goggles" " If the glasses are small enough they would fit right inside the goggle. Yes, you/they might look funny but it is better than having to take off your glasses and Get a shard of Metal Lodged in your eye like I did opening year of MF. And well they really do work.

Dippin Dots aren't they Great!!!

For those of us who have bad eyesight, and have not yet gotten contacts/lasik:

I have a couple sets of eyeglass straps; they attach to the arms of your glasses, and keep them there. Easy to take on/off. After losing a set of glasses on Kennywood's Raging Rapids (an Intamin raft ride), I've never gone riding without 'em, and have yet to lose another pair of glasses.

To make up for losing my glasses, that was also the day I asked my wife to marry me, so on balance it was a good day. Kennywood has held a spot in our hearts ever since.

"Yinz bin dahn ta Kinnywood an'at?"

Does that mean I'd have to wear a mask over mouth to? Yes, i had a bug in my mouth on MF. Don't try it.
I've never worn eye protection on the rides, and I ride just fine. Sure bugs hit me but they barely register with the senses.

Bugs hit me all the time, but I've never taken one square in the eye before. I think if the front of the train was engineered right, they could effectively reflect the bugs over the train, or at least most of them.

Let's ride the "Sky Ride Sponsored By The Ohio Lottery Odds Are You'll Have Fun" Ride!

but you are also not going 100+ mph, I have been in the fromt seat of MF and I have taken a bug in the eye and it does hurt, I cant imagine this at 100+mph, but i think that this is a risk that CP will take, I would ride even if I get hit with bugs, if this ride is going to be as big as it is
